- Offer description:
During the winter off-season, when warm-season turf is dormant and daily mowing and grooming demand has ceased, the worker assists the golf course's skilled maintenance, repair, and grounds staff — including the equipment mechanic, Dir. of Agronomy, Mgmt Supt., and Golf Course Supt. — with off-season repair, servicing, and renovation of equipment, structures, cart paths, bridges, and grounds infrastructure. All duties are general, non-specialized helper labor performed under close and continuous direction; the worker does not inspect, diagnose, test, or independently determine or perform repairs, and no independent technical judgment, professional certification, or specialized trade license is required for any duty. The worker assists skilled staff by furnishing, carrying, holding, and staging tools, parts, materials, and supplies at the work site, by cleaning and preparing work areas, equipment, and tools before and after skilled staff perform their work, and by performing the routine, lower-skill portions of each task under direction. In support of turf-equipment servicing, the worker cleans and details equipment, checks and tops off tire inflation and fluid levels as directed, applies grease, wax, soap, water, and touch-up spray paint, and hands tools and parts to the mechanic, using an air compressor, grease gun, and basic hand tools, while the mechanic performs all diagnostic work, reel grinding, blade calibration, and repairs. In support of irrigation and drainage work, the worker locates and clears debris from irrigation heads, sprinkler lines, swales, drain lines, and catch basins, digs and backfills by hand where directed, and carries and holds pipe, heads, and fittings for skilled staff, who perform the actual inspection, testing, valve and head repair, and component replacement. In support of bridge and structural work, the worker pressure-washes, fastens deck boards, and applies stain or sealant under direction, and hands tools and materials to skilled staff, using a battery screw gun or impact driver, basic hand tools, a pressure washer, a pump sprayer, and a paint brush; formal carpentry training is not required, and skilled staff direct and perform the structural repairs. In support of cart-path and access-road work, the worker rakes, grades, and smooths decomposed-granite surfaces by hand, fills small potholes with material provided, and edges, sweeps, blows, and washes concrete surfaces, using shovels, rakes, edgers, string trimmers, backpack blowers, buffalo turbine blowers, utility vehicles, and appropriate PPE, without operating heavy equipment. In support of bunker renovation, the worker moves and places sand, rakes and shapes cavities, and holds and positions liner material while skilled staff perform the reshaping, liner repair, and regrading. The worker also clears debris to keep swales, low points, and managed wetland and native buffer areas draining freely; assists with push-behind or tow-behind turf aeration; performs directed winter turf-protection tasks such as basic moisture checks and placing protective coverings on greens and sensitive zones; assists with small, occasional spot applications of pre-approved plant protectants and herbicides (Roundup, Fusilade, Triclopyr) in naturalized areas using a pump sprayer and utility vehicle with proper PPE, exercising no judgment over chemical selection, mixing, or placement, all of which the Dir. of Agronomy, Mgmt Supt., or Golf Course Supt. determine; assists with routine tree care and protection; assists skilled staff with off-season project labor such as erosion control, sod installation, bunker restoration, wetland cleanup, and native-landscape enhancement, using shovels, rakes, sod cutters, utility vehicles, hand saws, pruners, string trimmers, push mowers, sand, soil, and erosion matting; and keeps facility grounds, work areas, and equipment storage areas organized and clean using blowers, hoses, brooms, and shovels.
