As construction laborers, the workers will perform tasks involving physical labor at construction sites. Operate hand and power tools of all types: air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, small mechanical hoists, surveying, and measuring equipment, and a variety of other equipment and instruments. The workers will be operating heavy equipment such as motor scrapers, soil compactors, bulldozers, backhoes, skid loaders, and shovels. The worker will unload materials, lay out lumber, tin sheets and siding, trusses, and other components for building structures. The workers will build and erect walls and trusses, lift tin sheets and siding to roofs and walls, and install doors, and caulk structures. The workers will clean and prepare sites, set braces to support the sides of excavations, erect scaffolding, and clean up rubble, debris, and other waste materials. The workers will also lubricate, clean, or repair machinery, equipment, or tools. Use hand and power tools including shovels, hammers, utility knives, drills, saws, air compressors, pneumatic tools, compactors, cement mixers, laser levels, measuring tapes, and small mechanical hoists. Tools will be used to measure and mark layouts, prepare foundations, mix and place concrete, compact soil, cut and install materials, lift and position materials, and assist in assembling structural components. Hoists will lift roofing panels, siding, trusses, doors, windows, lumber and other materials. Laser levels and measuring tools will establish elevations, verify grades, and measure building dimensions. Perform manual labor and assist skilled construction personnel in the construction, repair, and renovation of commercial, industrial, and residential structures. Duties include cleaning and preparing job sites; loading, unloading and distributing materials; assisting with excavation, grading, trenching and backfilling; erecting and dismantling temporary structures; and performing general construction labor as assigned. Assist in the operation of employer-owned or leased construction equipment used for site preparation, grading, excavation, trenching, backfilling and material handling. Equipment may include Caterpillar D6 bulldozers (55,000 lbs.,225 HP) used to grade and level land; Caterpillar 324DL excavators (50,000 lbs,220 HP) used to dig footings and trenches; Caterpillar 330 excavators (60,000 lbs,250 HP) used to excavate and load trucks; Caterpillar 349EL excavators (120,000 lbs,400 HP) used to excavate, move and load soil; and Caterpillar 279D and 299D3 skid steer loaders (7,000-8,000 lbs,80-100 HP) used to grade, level and move materials. Unload, stage, and distribute construction materials including lumber, engineered wood products, trusses, metal roofing panels, metal siding panels, doors, windows, insulation, fasteners and concrete forms. Assist in constructing wall assemblies by measuring, positioning, fastening and bracing framing components; erecting and securing roof trusses; installing roofing and siding panels; installing doors and hardware; and applying caulking and sealants. Remove construction debris and waste materials using shovels, rakes, brooms, wheelbarrows, dumpsters and skid steer loaders. Maintain safe and clean work areas by removing hazards, organizing materials, cleaning work surfaces and performing general site housekeeping using basic cleaning tools. Clean, lubricate and perform minor repairs on machinery and equipment including skid steer loaders, compactors, backhoes, excavators, bulldozers, cement mixers, air compressors, mechanical hoists, pneumatic tools, power tools and hand tools. Clean and repair machinery by removing dirt, mud, concrete residue and debris; lubricating moving parts; checking fluid levels; tightening bolts and fittings; replacing filters, hoses, belts and other wear items; and assisting with minor repairs using wrenches, socket sets, screwdrivers, grease guns, cleaning equipment, lubricants and replacement parts.
