- Offer description:
As a heavy equipment operator, workers will operate all types of caterpillar equipment, excavators, wheel loader, track skid steer, dozers, scrapers, graders, and forklifts. Using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes including starting machine, engage clutch, and push and move levers to guide machine along forms or guidelines and to control the operation of machine attachments. Using excavators, wheel loader, track skid steer, and dozers, workers will move material and debris as required by the crew leader. Equipment operated will be used for applying concrete, asphalt, or other materials to roadbeds, parking lots, or airport runways and taxiways or for tamping gravel, dirt, or other materials. Workers will also be performing end-of-the-season tasks, i.e., cleaning debris from worksites, removing ice/snow from worksites, and performing cleaning, oiling, and maintenance of equipment in preparation for storage. To perform ice and snow removal at the worksite, the workers will operate front-end loaders and skid-steer loaders equipped with snow pushers and snow-bucket attachments to clear accumulated snow and ice from equipment, material stockpiles, and worksite access points. Removed snow and ice will be piled or disposed of in designated stockpiles areas or loaded into dump trucks for transport offsite as needed. Workers may also use hand tools, including shovels and ice scrapers, to remove snow and ice from around equipment and structures that cannot be accessed by heavy equipment. Equipment and tools used include front-end loaders, skid-steer loaders, snow pushers, snow-bucket attachments, dump trucks, shovels, and ice scrapers.
