Cooks will assist in preparing, seasoning, and cooking a variety of foods such as meats, vegetables, soups, and desserts in a restaurant setting. Workers will follow recipes and instructions provided by the head cook or kitchen supervisor. Duties include: Prepare ingredients by washing, peeling, cutting, and measuring food items; Cook food using standard kitchen appliances such as ovens, grills, stovetops, deep fryers, steamers, broilers, and roasters; Use basic kitchen tools such as knives, peelers, spatulas, tongs, whisks, ladles, forks, and thermometers; Follow portion sizes and cooking times based on pre-set recipes; Stir, flip, or turn food as needed to ensure even cooking; Monitor food temperature and doneness using visual inspection, kitchen tools and basic food thermometers; Maintain cleanliness by wiping down counters, cleaning utensils, and sanitizing equipment to ensure safe and sanitary food-handling practices; Store ingredients and leftovers properly and rotate stock to keep items fresh; Plate food and add simple garnishes before handing it off to waitstaff; and Substitute for or assist other cooks during emergencies or rush periods. The position requires workers who are dependable and responsible, with strong attention to detail, integrity, and basic knowledge of food preparation and production. Workers must have the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and be able to work safely around hot and cold temperatures and standard kitchen equipment.
