Assist the field supervisor in excavation activities, trench areas using shovels, pickaxes, and other hand tools, and dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, or compact and level earth to grade specifications using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, or rakes. Operate equipment including excavators, skid steers, and trenchers, and drive company vehicles equipped with a trailer hitch to tow utility trailers used to transport conduit reels, tools, or small equipment, as well as trucks and other vehicles to transport materials, tools, and equipment, including items such as mini excavators, skid steer loaders/Bobcats, light trenchers, hydraulic or manual drills, soil augers, shovels, pickaxes, sledgehammers, hoes, hand compactors, wheelbarrows, hand saws/PVC pipe cutters, levels, tape measures, ropes, and levers. Measure, mark, or record openings or distances to layout areas where construction work will be performed, load, unload, or identify building materials, machinery, or tools, and distribute them to the appropriate locations according to project plans or specifications. Position, join, align, or seal structural components such as concrete wall sections or pipes. Clean, prepare, and organize construction sites to eliminate possible hazards, erect or dismantle scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps, or other temporary structures, and control traffic passing near, in, or around work zones. Mix, pour, or spread concrete using portable cement mixers, smooth or finish freshly poured cement or concrete using floats, trowels, screeds, or powered cement finishing tools, operate jackhammers or drills to break up concrete or pavement, and apply caulking compounds by hand or caulking guns to protect against entry of water or air.
