- Offer description:
Performs manual labor to assist the backhoe operator and construction crew with land clearing, trenching, grading preparation, and general site preparation on residential and commercial properties. Works under close supervision to complete basic, repetitive tasks using simple hand tools (shovels, rakes, hoes, wheelbarrows). Shoveling duties are frequent and include hand-excavating, clearing and removing spoils, trimming trench walls and bottoms, redistributing and compacting backfill by hand, loading spoils into wheelbarrows or containers, and spreading and leveling topsoil, sand, or gravel by shovel. Additional duties include acting as a ground spotter for safe machine movements; hand-digging/potholing around utilities; clearing brush and debris; loading and unloading materials and debris by hand; carrying and staging pipe, lumber, and supplies; preparing and backfilling trenches manually; placing stakes and string lines as directed; and routine jobsite cleanup. The helper does not operate backhoes or other heavy construction machinery and does not tow trailers. Driving is not a primary duty; a standard non-commercial pickup (≤10,000 lbs GVWR) may be driven occasionally between nearby worksites to transport light tools and small quantities of materials as directed. No formal education or training is required. No prior experience is required beyond brief on-the-job safety and task orientation. A valid regular Class C driver’s license is required for occasional operation of a standard pickup between nearby worksites. Must be able to perform continuous shoveling and other strenuous manual tasks, lift and carry up to 75 pounds, and work outdoors in varying conditions. The role has no supervisory duties and tasks are performed exactly as directed by lead workers. Must be trust worthy and dependable.
