Prepare a variety of foods, such as meats, vegetables, or desserts, according to customers' orders or supervisors' instructions, following approved procedures. Season and cook food according to recipes or personal judgment and experience. Turn or stir foods to ensure even cooking. Ensure food is stored and cooked at correct temperature. Portion and wrap the food or place it directly on plates for service to patrons. Clean and sanitize work areas, food preparation areas, equipment, and work surfaces or serving areas to ensure safe and sanitary food-handling practices. Ensure freshness of food and ingredients by checking for quality, keeping track of old and new items, and rotating stock. Store food in designated containers and storage areas to prevent spoilage. Store other supplies or goods in kitchens or storage areas. Wash dishes, utensils, silverware, glassware, flatware, pots, or pans, using dishwashers or by hand. Place clean dishes, utensils, or cooking equipment in storage areas. Sort and remove trash, placing it in designated pickup areas. Sweep and scrub floors in the kitchen as well as the restaurant dining room. Maintain kitchen work areas, equipment, or utensils in clean and orderly condition. Entry level; requires supervision.
