- Offer description:
Landscape or maintain grounds of property using hand or power tools or equipment. Performs a variety of tasks, which may include any combination of the following: sod laying, mowing, trimming, planting, watering, fertilizing, digging, raking, and installation of retaining walls, walkways, and water features using (mortarless) interlocking concrete masonry blocks. The job will require the worker to: gather and remove litter; use hand tools such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, hedge or brush trimmers, or axes; operate vehicles or powered equipment such as mowers, tractors, chainsaws, electric clippers, sod cutters, or rototillers. The employee will use a variety of tools and equipment for trimming small trees, including pruning shears, loppers, and pole pruners, all operated from the ground to safely reach branches. In some cases, hand saws may be used for thicker branches. All trimming tasks are ground-based. After pruning, the employee may apply a commercial tree wound sealant, typically using a brush or spray applicator, to protect the tree from disease and pests. The employee may use commercial substances such as Interline, Roundup, Quick Pro, or Lontrel to control weeds, unwanted vegetation, and treat plants or surfaces as necessary. For supporting small trees, the employee will use equipment such as tree stakes, guy wires, rubber rope, and tree ties. The installation process involves driving stakes into the ground using a mallet, attaching soft, adjustable rubber tree ties around the trunk, and securing them to the stakes or anchors with wire. The stakes and ties help stabilize young trees against environmental stressors like wind, and the employee will periodically check and adjust them to avoid constriction as the tree grows. Additionally, worker will water lawns, trees, or plants using portable sprinkler systems, hoses, or watering cans; prune or trim trees, shrubs, or hedges using shears, pruners, or chain saws; spray or spread commercial fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides onto grass, shrubs, or trees using hand or automatic sprayers or spreaders; care for established lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing, removing thatch, or edging around flower beds, walks, or walls; follow planned landscaping designs to determine where to lay sod, sow grass, or plant flowers or foliage; trim or pick flowers and clean flower beds; attach wires from planted trees to support stakes; plant seeds, bulbs, foliage, flowering plants, grass, ground covers, trees, or shrubs and apply mulch for protection using gardening tools; mow or edge lawns using power mowers or edgers; rake, mulch, and compost leaves; decorate gardens with stones or plants; provide upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, fountains, planters, or other grounds features; haul or spread topsoil or straw over seeded soil to hold soil in place; install rock gardens, ponds, decks, drainage systems, irrigation systems, retaining walls, fences, planters, or playground equipment; dispose of trash or waste materials; maintain equipment or systems to ensure proper functioning; cultivate lawns, turf, or gardens; plant greenery to improve landscape appearance; remove debris from work sites. Worker may be exposed to the outdoors, noise, hot/cold temperatures and must wear common protective/safety equipment. The job will require the worker to have integrity and attention to detail, and be thorough in completing work tasks, cooperative and reliable.
