***RFI Response*** The employee will perform a variety of tasks in connection with the duty to “resurface areas with cobblestones, tiles, concrete, or other materials and cement the edges.” This work primarily involves installing outdoor pavers and hardscape décor elements based on detailed plans provided for each project. Employees will begin by preparing the work site, which includes measuring, marking, and compacting the ground to establish a stable base for installation. Following the specifications outlined in project blueprints, employees will then position pavers, cobblestones, tiles, or decorative stones, repeatedly lifting, bending, and carefully placing each piece in its assigned location to ensure alignment and proper spacing. As part of these duties, employees will cut pavers or stones to fit edges or corners using manual or power saws, including concrete saws. They will also apply cement or adhesive materials to secure the pavers and to finish and seal the edges, resulting in a stable and clean appearance. In some instances, employees will assist in pouring and spreading concrete, mixing batches in a concrete mixer and using tools to level and finish the surface as needed. The installation of hardscape décor will involve lifting and placing decorative rocks, stone features, and other hardscape materials according to pre-approved plans. Employees will also assist with the installation of low voltage lighting by helping trained lighting installers position fixtures, run conduit, and secure components. Throughout all tasks, employees will work under the direction of a supervisor who will guide the placement of pavers and décor elements and ensure the project progresses according to schedule. All installations are preplanned and have designated start and end dates, and employees are expected to perform efficiently to complete each job within the time allotted To carry out these tasks, employees will utilize a range of hand tools, including measuring tapes, chalk lines, levels, hammers, rubber mallets, trowels, and hand tampers. They will also use power tools such as saws and concrete saws for cutting pavers and stones, jack hammers for breaking up existing surfaces, compact machines to prepare the ground, and concrete mixers to prepare cement. Additionally, employees may operate heavy equipment such as backhoes and skid steers under supervision to move earth, gravel, or other heavy materials. The materials handled will include pavers, cobblestones, tiles, decorative rocks, cement, sand, gravel, and low voltage lighting fixtures. Together, these duties and tools ensure that resurfacing projects are completed according to plan, resulting in durable and visually appealing outdoor surfaces. ***Original Duties*** Install pavers and hardscape materials with precise alignment and durability. Daily tasks include shoveling, carrying bricks, and operating equipment like excavators, saws, drills, and compactors. Ensure safety standards while assisting in all stages of hardscaping, from preparation to final installation. Prepare the base by removing unsuitable materials, compacting soil, stabilizing weak or saturated areas, and preventing water migration. Place base materials, edge restraints, bedding sand, and jointing sand. Set and align pavers, fill joints with sand, and compact the pavement. Cut pavers using a splitter or masonry saw, then compact the area with a plate compactor. Design the layout, mark joints, and remove surface sand before opening to traffic. Resurface areas with cobblestones, tiles, concrete, or other materials and cement the edges.
