SUMMARY: The Operator Support is a floating position to assist the Packaging Supervisor. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Keep areas clean and neat, along with other duties as assigned. 1. Carton Machine a. Operate and feed shook into the carton forming machine. b. Perform basic operator maintenance on carton forming machine. c. Stack empty pallets and dunnage. d. Assist in placing formed cartons on empty box conveyor during hand packing. e. Stitch cartons as needed. 2. Sticker Machine a. Monitor stickers to ensure that they are properly dispensing and report problems. b. Correctly place sticker rolls on machine by variety and replace as needed. 3. Dump a. Mechanically run dump system and notify of size and/or grade lot changes. b. Do chlorine tests and maintain written documentation. c. Accurately maintain records and pull and verify tags off all bins entering the system, per run instructions. 4. Stamper a. Set up carton printing equipment on computer. b. Monitor carton labels and report any problems immediately to supervisor. c. Check box weights and obvious defects. d. Produce printouts of box manifests and packer tallies. e. Make grower lot or variety changes on printing software. 5. Palletizer a. Operate palletizer/accumulation system. b. Remove broken or mis-packaged cartons from palletizer. c. Monitor the empty pallet supplies in the pallet feed section and sort any broken pallets before they enter the feed hopper. d. Coordinate re-supply of empty pallets with the forklift operator. e. Place and tie corner stacking aids on all pallets, as required after they exit from the palletizer. f. When necessary, stack cartons of fruit on pallets by hand. 6. Bagger a. Set up bagging machine equipment. b. Ensure bags are properly labeled with correct weights, and make changes as needed. 7. Quality Control a. Inspect packed pears prior to shipment. b. Perform pressure tests as needed. c. Determine percentages of decay and defect and report it. 8. Segregation Room a. Stack cartons of fruit on the proper pallet by pack, grade and size. b. Stack cartons of fruit on pallets in cold storage, as required. c. Tie pallets and corner boards or otherwise secure pallets as directed, and mark pallets as required. d. Repair pallets. 9. Sanitation Crew a. Clean and sanitize all machinery and/or disassemble and reassemble machinery to the highest level of hygiene standards and report areas of concern. b. Read and follow all safety measures and directives. 10. Forklift a. Operate standard forklift or forklift modified with attachments for loading/unloading and stacking. Assist in unitizing pallets of packed fruit for loading. b. Scan bin and pallet tags and complete accounting forms. c. Must be able to move levers and press pedals to drive truck and control the movement of lifting apparatus. d. Perform daily operator maintenance and complete records. 11. Mechanic Helper a. Assist maintenance personnel in the diagnosis, troubleshooting, installation, and repair of department equipment. Days/Hours/Schedule: Worker may work either of the following shifts: Monday- Friday 7:00am -2:30pm or Monday- Friday 4:00pm- 11:30pm or Monday-Friday 11:00 pm – 6 am
