- Offer description:
Alvin Dardar Oyster LLC is a seasonal employer in need of 40 Seasonal Deck Hand Workers for our upcoming oyster season, which will begin October 1, 2025, and end June 1, 2026. Workers must have three (3) months of work experience. No education is required. Work is based on rotating schedules: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7 hours per day (6:00 AM to 1:00 PM or 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM), and Saturdays, 5 hours per day (6:00 AM to 11:00 AM or 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM). No overtime. Wages are paid weekly, and a single work week will be used as the standard for computing wages due. All deductions required by law will be made from the worker’s paycheck. Duties: Workers will work on large oyster boats, fishing for oysters in various parts of the water using dredging nets. Duties include assisting in dropping the dredge nets into the water, which scrape the bottom surface to scoop up oysters. At the end of each run, workers lift dredge nets filled with live oysters onto the boat deck, gently placing the nets on deck, removing oysters, and returning empty nets into the water. Workers will separate the oysters and measure each one to ensure they are 3 inches in size (consumer size). Any oysters smaller than 3 inches will be returned to the water to mature. Oysters that remain on deck will be washed down with water to remove dirt, weighed, bagged, labeled, and transported to the port, where they will be picked up by freezer trucks and delivered to the processing plant. The employer will provide all tools and supplies needed to perform the duties at no cost to the workers. The wage the employer is offering or intends to offer or will provide to the H-2B workers, non-commuting U.S. domestic workers, U.S. citizens, and holders of visas that allow employment in the U.S. will equal or exceed the highest of the prevailing wage, Federal, State, or local minimum wage. If multiple wage offers exist (such as when an itinerary is authorized through special procedures), each wage offer will meet or exceed these standards. The prevailing wage is determined as the higher wage based on the OFLC National Prevailing Wage Center, a collective bargaining agreement, an occupational employment statistics survey, or a private survey. The anticipated employment will last 120 days or more. The employer guarantees to offer work hours equal to at least three-fourths of the workdays in each 12-week period of the total employment period. H-2B workers will be reimbursed in the first workweek for all visas, visa processing, border crossing, and other related fees, including those mandated by the government (excluding passport fees). Transportation, including meals and lodging (to the extent necessary), will be provided or its cost reimbursed to H-2B visa workers and non-commuting U.S. domestic workers who complete half the employment period. The employer will also pay reasonable transportation and subsistence costs to workers who do not return home due to subsequent employment with another employer. Return transportation and subsistence will not be provided for workers who voluntarily abandon employment. The transportation payment or reimbursement amount will equal the most economical and reasonable common carrier cost for the distance involved. Daily meals during travel will be paid at a rate of $16.28 per day, up to a maximum of $68.00 per day with receipts. The employer will have housing available for workers for a monthly fee of $150.00 per month. In addition, daily transportation from housing to the worksite and back at the end of the workday will be provided at no cost to workers. The employer will also provide transportation to workers every Saturday to Walmart, allowing them to purchase groceries and other weekly necessities at no cost.
