- Offer description:
Planting seedling trees in areas that are designated as commercial timber zones. As required, the ground is prepared prior to the planting by clearing an area of brush with the use of the planting shovel, a hole is then dug, and then the seedling tree is planted into the hole. Once the seedling is in the hole, the worker uses the shovel to fill the hole up with the dirt and ensures the seedling is secure in being planted by tamping the soil about the newly planted tree. Measures are taken to protect the seedling by spraying and/or placing netting/tubing around the base of the seedling.SPRAYING: (Only herbicides labeled for forestry applications are used. The position does not mix or load of any herbicide. Mixing and loading is done by a licensed herbicide applicator who oversees all aspects of application. Each worker who sprays herbicide must be licensed with the Washington Department of Agriculture. Workers are trained both for safety and for technical procedures. The worker will be trained, once hired, to obtain the spraying license.) The worker must be able to carry the trees in a planting bag which when filled with trees can weigh up to 50 lbs. Thinning will be conducted with the use of a chainsaw. The worker must be able to carry chainsaw, fuel and oil, weighing about 30 pounds, up and down steep terrain, cutting undesirable and deceased trees, clearing brush and hand piling the material for future disposal. Spraying conducted as required. All work to be conducted on steep terrain, 30% - 50% in slope. Must be able to work in a safe manner.
