- Offer description:
Employees in the chicken hatchery production facility work with chickens throughout the incubation, hatching, sorting, packing, and shipping process, performing SOC 45-2093 — 100% of work performed. The work begins with receiving eggs and placing them on trays, then loading trays into incubators and later transferring eggs from incubators to hatchers as part of the hatchery flow. After chicks hatch, employees examine chick genitalia, feathers, and/or colors to determine sex by picking up chicks, squeezing chicks so that feces are extracted, shining light or turning back the cloacal opening to view and observe the sex of the chick, and separating chicks according to sex based on those observations. They also examine feathers and colors of chicks to segregate chicks according to sex and load chicks into separators as needed. In support of hatchery and farm operations, employees assist with toe/wing/beak clipping, vaccinating, receiving, loading, and unloading eggs and chicks at the hatchery, at farms, and at shipping locations, and driving to farms and shipping locations using vans. They also package and fill customer chick orders, load and unload eggs and chicks during transport and handling, dump product waste, clean and sanitize the facility and equipment, and carry out all other duties as assigned so that chicks can be prepared for customer shipment and the hatchery can continue operating smoothly. The employer, at its sole discretion, may grant pay increases based on factors such as performance, longevity, and/or experience. Employer may also, at its sole discretion, offer performance-based incentive bonuses that are not guaranteed and are determined by the employer. Workers returning for a consecutive season will be paid at their previous season’s rate if that rate exceeds the current published rate.
