- Offer description:
Employees in SOC 45-2093 perform all work in a chicken hatchery production facility centered on incubating chicken eggs, hatching chicks, separating chicks by sex, packaging customer chick orders, and shipping chicks to customers. The work begins with receiving eggs and chicks at the hatchery, farms, and shipping locations, including loading and unloading eggs and chicks and, when needed, driving to farms and shipping locations using vans. Eggs are placed on trays, loaded into incubators, transferred from incubators to hatchers, and managed through the hatchery process until chicks emerge. After hatching, employees examine chick genitalia, feathers, and/or colors to determine sex by picking up chicks, squeezing chicks so that feces are extracted, shining light or turning back the cloacal opening to view and observe the sex of the chick, and segregating chicks according to sex; they also examine feathers and colors of chicks to segregate chicks according to sex. They assist in all areas of the hatchery and farms, including toe/wing/beak clipping, vaccinating, loading chicks into separator, filling customer chick orders, dumping product waste, and cleaning and sanitizing the facility and equipment. They also perform all other duties as assigned in support of the hatchery and shipping workflow for chickens. The employer, at its sole discretion, may grant pay increases based on factors such as performance, longevity, and/or experience. Employer may also, at its sole discretion, offer performance-based incentive bonuses that are not guaranteed and are determined by the employer. Workers returning for a consecutive season will be paid at their previous season’s rate if that rate exceeds the current published rate.
