- Offer description:
During the winter months of December, January, and February, the operation requires additional help to oversee the cow/calf herd during confined winter calving, when no pastures are available and cattle must be fed and cared for daily; the work centers on Cattle/Cow/Calf and is performed under SOC 45-2093 at 100% of work performed. In this period, employees prepare feed mixtures and distribute feed to animals, check drinking-water supplies, and clean troughs, tanks, and watering equipment as part of the daily care needed while animals remain in winter confinement. They observe animals for illness, injury, distress, or changes in feeding behavior, count, weigh, identify, and sort animals into designated groups, and move animals between pastures, pens, barns, and handling areas as needed to manage the herd. They assist with breeding activities and pregnancy checks as directed, monitor animals during birthing, and assist with newborn care so calving can be supervised closely through the winter season. They also apply identification tags and assist with vaccinations or other prescribed animal-care procedures, separate animals requiring treatment or additional observation, and load and unload animals for movement or sale when needed. To support the operation, employees clean pens, stalls, barns, chutes, and animal-handling areas, repair fences, gates, livestock enclosures, and watering systems, and operate feeding equipment, tractors, loaders, or farm vehicles used in animal care. Once calving is completed for the year, the cattle are released to pastures for grazing and no further help is needed. The employer, at its sole discretion, may grant pay increases based on factors such as performance, longevity, and/or experience. Employer may also, at its sole discretion, offer performance-based incentive bonuses that are not guaranteed and are determined by the employer. Job requires exposure to extreme outdoor temperatures and lifting up to 50 lbs. Must possess a valid, standard, non-commercial driver's license (e.g., Class C, D, R, E, F or 3 depending on state). Employee must have 3 months of verifiable experience.
