- Offer description:
Workers will perform seasonal livestock care for a cow/calf operation, with primary duties focused on winter feeding and watering when reduced pasture growth and cold weather increase the need for daily care. Workers will distribute hay, supplemental feed, and minerals according to the employer’s instructions; monitor feed consumption; clean livestock feeders and water troughs; break and remove ice from watering areas; and check livestock water supplies to ensure cattle have access to clean water. Workers will observe cows and calves daily for illness, injury, poor body condition, and signs of distress; report concerns to the employer; and assist with safely sorting, moving, and restraining cattle for examination and treatment. Workers will administer medications, vaccinations, and dewormers as directed by the employer or veterinarian and maintain feeding, treatment, and livestock observation records. Workers will repair fences, check cattle areas for predator tracks, disturbed soil, injured animals, and other evidence of predator activity and promptly report findings. Workers will install, inspect, and repair temporary electric fencing used for livestock rotation and winter feeding areas; move cattle between designated pastures; monitor forage availability, grazing conditions, and muddy or damaged areas; and relocate portable feeders to reduce concentrated trampling. Grounds maintenance will be limited to livestock care areas and will include removing manure and spoiled feed, replacing bedding, collecting debris that could injure cattle, and keeping livestock feeding and watering access areas clear. Workers will perform duties outdoors in cold, wet, and other seasonal weather conditions and follow the employer’s livestock handling and safety instructions.
