Drive tractors:Care for horses and livestock during winter. Maintain quiet calm demeanor working around animals. Keep shelter clean, dry, with proper drainage. Clear paths in paddocks and around shelters, remove ice patches. Keep footing area solid, spread sand on slippery spots and spread gravel on super muddy areas. Provide clean, dry bedding – remove wet bedding and manure at least once a day. Feed horses frequently, smaller feedings with unlimited access to clean, dry, and mold-free hay. Add grain or fat supplements if needed. Monitor feed intake. Make sure horses have access to fresh, unfrozen water at all times. Clean buckets and troughs daily. Monitor drinking behavior daily. Place salt blocks in pastures and stalls. Groom horses: pick hooves daily, use curry comb to gently brush the coat to remove dirt, keep legs dry to help prevent scratches or mud fever, clean muddy tails and manes. Watch for hoof problems such as thrush, bruising, and cracks. Watch for colic and heaves symptoms. Monitor horse’s body condition - feel a horse’s back, withers, and ribs. Exercise horses: warm-up, hand walk, turnout, cool down adjusting routines for safety and comfort. Pay attention to attitudes and behavior. Watch horse body language to learn normal behavior.
