Workers needed for beef cattle and hay operation November – April. Duties may include but are not limited to assisting with delivery, assisting with seasonal natural insemination and breeding, assisting with weaning, assisting with application and/or administering of medications, vaccines, and/or insecticides, apply or administer de-wormer, mix feed and additives, feed, water, herd, clean/disinfect livestock corrals/stalls/sheds, castrate, brand, tag, and clamp livestock. Bulls are put in the pasture to naturally service the cows in December-March so the baby calves will be born (tagged to match mothers’ numbers as they are born) in August-November. The bulls are usually removed in March. November is designated for herd health work where the herds will be vaccinated and dewormed. In April, cows will be weighed, and palpated to make sure they are pregnant then after all calves are weaned. Cows are then separated into groups by weight and sex. Along with this effort, workers will do daily herd checks to make sure all animals are healthy and feeding using Vermeer mixers pulled by John Deere tractors and making sure the herds have adequate water supply and minerals that are in 50 lb bags and are put out in self-feeders. If an animal is found to be unhealthy, they will be treated with antibiotics, penicillin, or probiotics. 2 months’ positive verifiable experience required. Troubleshoot, repair and perform minor maintenance on farm vehicles and equipment. Perform farm, field and shed sanitation duties. Workers may maintain and repair fencing. Mow grass and operate trimmer around farm buildings. Workers will walk along rows as specified by employer and remove weeds and grass from fields by hand or using a hoe. Workers will cultivate by hand or with mechanical cultivator attached to farm tractor. Requires minimum 2 months’ verifiable work experience operating up to 250 hp tractors with farm implements. Must commit to work entire contract period. Workers will be expected to perform any of the listed duties and work on any crop as assigned by the employer and/or worker’s supervisor. Workers may drive pickup trucks with goose neck trailers farm-use vehicle for grain, hay, and cattle transport between designated employer farms. The employee is responsible for loading, securing, and unloading grain and/cattle at each farm. All safety and operational guidelines must be strictly adhered to, and any mechanical issues or incidents should be reported immediately. Please note, this role is strictly for internal farm-to-farm transport and is not a heavy tractor-trailer truck driver position; no CDL is required. Workers may drive trucks to haul crops, supplies, tools, or farm workers. Workers will perform various duties associated with the operation of cattle farm loading and unloading of trucks, delivery of product to market, tractor driving, & general farm work. Workers should not have any allergies to noxious plants or approved insect control sprays. Workers may perform duties ancillary to the farming operation including cleaning and washing equipment, grounds maintenance, cutting grass on the farm premises, running a bush hog to trim and maintain ditch banks, moving equipment from field to field, preparing materials or solutions for animal or plant use, feeding and herding livestock; or removing animal waste, fueling up equipment and other preventative maintenance of equipment, and other various roles related to cattle during this season.
