Crops/commodities: pecans. Primary duties: Examine and inspect containers, materials, and crops to ensure that quality standards and specifications are met. Record tree maturity and bag numbers. Inspect products for damage/defects and discard inferior products and foreign matter. Place filled containers on conveyors or in specified areas. Stack filled containers on pallets according to size, grade, brand, label, or other identification. Apply strapping or other stabilizing materials to finished pallets manually with hand tools or using automatic equipment. Place product in bins/trays and other containers according to grade and mark/label containers, using marking tools. Weigh products and record weight and/or grade. Apply tags or printed labels to containers. Assemble cartons, inserts, crates and containers by hand or using container assembly machinery. Operate mechanized packing equipment, including but not limited to bagging machines, box filling machines, metal detectors, taping machines, and forklifts. Deliver pallets of finished product to cold storage. Load/unload product. Prepare orders for shipping. Keep material and product records accurately. Complete required daily food safety forms and adhere to SQF-certified food safety procedures. Must have sufficient hand and finger dexterity to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects. Workers must operate all equipment properly and in a manner that protects operator, others, the employer's products and property. Supervisor(s) will provide instructions and directions to workers. Workers must be able to comprehend and follow instructions and communicate effectively to supervisors. Unusual, complex or non-routine activities will be supervised. Workers expected to perform basic duties in a proficient manner without close supervision. Workers should be able to work on their feet in bent positions for long periods of time. Work requires repetitive movements, extensive walking, and lifting. Workers who have a valid driver's license and doctor's certificate may occasionally drive trucks and/or vans to haul supplies and/or other workers on and/or off premises and may be offered additional hours. Workers should be able to do the work required with or without reasonable accommodation. Qualified workers with disabilities should notify the employer of any accommodations needed to perform the job. Workers must be physically able to perform the work required, with or without reasonable accommodations. A worker is not eligible if the worker is unable to perform the job duties even with the requested accommodation, or if the employer is not reasonably able to accommodate (i.e., because doing so would cause undue hardship on business operations). The employer will advise foreign H-2A workers of responsibility to depart the U.S. upon separation of employment or completion of H-2A contract period, unless worker obtains a visa extension. Workers must perform work carefully and timely, in accordance with the supervisor’s instruction. Workers may not sleep or loiter during work hours. Workers must be present, able, and willing to perform assigned duties every scheduled workday at the scheduled start time unless excused by the employer. Workers may not begin work prior to scheduled start time or continue working after stopping time. Excessive tardiness or absences will not be tolerated, and workers should report any absence prior to the scheduled start time. Employer may terminate any worker who abandons employment (five consecutive workdays of unexcused absences).
