Crops: Pumpkins, Potatoes Harvest potatoes/pumpkins: Workers will hand-pick pumpkins or potatoes and will place them on the harvest grader according to supervisor instructions. Workers will only pick good pumpkins or good potatoes, clearing out debris, garbage, and dirt. After grading, workers may be asked to run equipment to load potatoes into a bin or truck. Additional tasks: Field crew cuts, sorts, and loads the harvest vehicles, buses, or wagons (this crew will also potentially help in the packhouse, which is located on the farm), they also help clean the harvest vehicles. Packing house crew will unload, sort, wash, pack crops. They also repack any returns, clean the packhouse, pack line, south breakroom, bathrooms, etc. This crew will also go to help cut crops and, sometimes, pick crops in the field. Equipment/Forklift Operators: Workers will perform duties associated with the harvesting, packing, handling, storage, loading, and preparation of crops. Workers may operate pallet jacks and/or forklifts after receiving appropriate safety and operating training as required by the employer. Workers will operate pallet jacks on either side of the pumpkin packing line to remove full bins or pallets of pumpkins from the line and move them to designated areas where forklifts can retrieve them. Workers may operate forklifts to pick up full bins of crops from the packing line and transport them to designated storage areas. Workers must verify that bins have the appropriate pallet tags or identifying labels before moving or storing them. Workers will organize and store crops bins by size, date, and other identifying information as directed by the employer. Workers will help maintain the efficient operation of the packing line by removing full pallets and bins, obtaining and placing lids on full bins, writing size numbers or other identifying information on bins, and supplying stickers or labels to workers packing crops. Workers must monitor the flow of work on the packing line, anticipate production, storage, and loading needs, and assist in maintaining organized systems for the efficient movement and storage of pumpkins. Workers may load trucks and unload supply trucks. Workers may work together in teams to load shipments while also retrieving full bins from the packing line and moving them to storage areas. Workers may band bins by applying straps around bins to secure them to pallets for storage or transport. Workers will help keep product moving and assist packers and other workers as needed. Workers may repack returned crops or products as directed. Workers will clean and maintain the packhouse, packing line, breakroom, bathrooms, and other work areas, including sweeping, removing debris, organizing supplies, and performing general sanitation duties. Workers may also assist with harvesting crops and may occasionally pick in the field by hand. Duties may include lifting, carrying, loading, unloading, stacking, moving, securing, and handling pumpkins, bins, pallets, lids, stickers, straps, supplies, and related materials.
