- Offer description:
Workers will perform assigned duties as described in this clearance order and as instructed by their supervisors. All the following job duties are subject to crop and weather conditions, requiring standing and walking long distances in extreme hot, wet, and cold temperatures. Sweet Potatoes Hand Harvesting: Workers will harvest sweet potatoes and will be repeatedly walking long distances in hot or cold weather conditions, harvesting sweet potatoes by hand into buckets. These buckets will be carried to a truck in the fields equipped with empty bin boxes. At the end of the day, employees should wash and clean the buckets, wash and clean hydration stations or coolers, and refill them with clean water or ice. Bucket Unloading: Workers will be standing inside or next to the plastic, wood, or cardboard bin boxes on the flatbed truck trailer, receiving full buckets of sweet potatoes from the other workers who are harvesting, and unloading the buckets full of produce into the plastic or wood bin boxes. Workers are required to lift and carry at least 50 pounds. Agricultural & Farm Equipment Operators: Duties may vary from time to time. Applicants must be 18 years or older. Following the Supervisor’s instructions, the workers will operate or tend agricultural equipment used in agricultural production in the fields to seed or haul tools, plants, weeds, fruits, vegetables, and water for the crops from farms to the packing house or from the packing house to farms. To perform any job duty that may require employees to drive any agricultural equipment vehicle, the driver must possess a proper, current, and valid standard driver's license according to the vehicle the employee is operating as is required in North Carolina, or its foreign equivalent General Farm Labor and Other Activities: When primary planting or harvesting work is temporarily unavailable due to weather, crop conditions, or other operational factors, or when workers are on physical work restrictions, employees may be required to perform miscellaneous, incidental maintenance and clean-up activities directly related to the agricultural operations. These duties will not replace or substantially reduce the availability of primary agricultural work. Tasks may include the maintenance and general clean-up of the worksite, farm property, and structures utilized in the operation; weeding, trimming, digging, cutting, topping, and the removal of debris, weeds, trash, and vines from fields and fence lines; installation or removal of plastic mulch and irrigation drip tape; and irrigation repair. Field sanitation activities will also be required, such as cleaning, disinfecting, and repairing harvest buckets, bins, trailers, and hand tools. Workers may assist with the cleaning and repair of farm vehicles and equipment—such as tractors, trucks, buses, trailers, and harvest machinery—as well as the basic upkeep and cleaning of employer-provided housing, limited to the minor upkeep necessary to maintain health, safety, and sanitary living standards. Requirements and Additional Information: Workers are required to have at least one (1) month of verifiable harvesting experience. All job duties are subject to one hour for workers to rest and take their noon meals.
