All applicants must be able, willing and qualified to perform the work described in the job order and must be available for the entire period of employment specified in Section A.3 & A.4. This work order is for qualified people to perform any combination of task related to packing fresh market apples including, but not limited to, operating apple grading equipment, labelers and baggers; adjusting, maintaining and cleaning packing machines; folding cardboard containers; grade and sort by hand, or classify unprocessed apples by size, weight, color or condition, placing apples by hand into containers, taping, moving and stacking cartons on pallets. Workers will repair bulk apple bins and pallets. Workers may use hand tools such as bag taper, stapler, air-hammer, broom and mop. Productivity must be at least 60-bushel boxes per 7 hours worked with no more than 1% bruising. Workers should report for work with their own suitable clothing and must be willing to work in various extreme weather conditions from damp, cold spring and fall days to hot, humid summer days. The work assigned will be physically demanding, long periods of standing, bending, kneeling, and stooping will be required. Workers must be able to lift and carry up to 75 pounds on a frequent basis. Due to Federal food safety regulations, workers must speak and take directions in simple English and must have a minimum of three (3) month of verifiable experience in performing the task described in this job description. Workers will be required to work 7-hour shifts within the hours of 7:00am to 7:00pm Monday to Friday and may offer to work 5 hours within the hours of 7:00am to7:00pm on Saturday. This schedule totals 40 hours per week. The 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. range accounts for varying orchard conditions (e.g., weather or crop readiness) to ensure that workers are able to complete the required weekly hours. Workers will not be scheduled to work a full 12-hour shift. Workers may be offered additional hours beyond the standard schedule, subject to the mutual agreement of the workers and management. Workers will be provided with a 30-minute lunch break, staggered between 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., as determined by both the workers and management. Workers may choose where to eat their lunch and must return to work after the 30-minute break. The daily and weekly work schedules may vary due to weather, sunlight, temperature, crop conditions, or other factors. The employer will notify workers of any changes to the schedule. The employer will provide one day of training and two days of work to demonstrate satisfactory performance of the duties described in this job description. The employer will provide, at no cost to the workers, all tools and equipment required to perform the assigned duties.
