- Offer description:
Workers will perform duties related to the cultivation, maintenance, and harvesting of oysters on approximately 1,172 acres of employer-owned water parcels in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana. Beginning in late summer and continuing throughout the fall and winter growing season, workers will place hundreds of oyster seed into specially designed cultivation cages and deploy cages within designated oyster-growing areas. Workers will inspect oyster growth and health, monitor for disease, fungus, discoloration, abnormalities, and environmental conditions affecting oyster development. Workers will repair and maintain oyster cages damaged by hurricanes, storms, aquatic predators, marine growth, normal wear, and changing water conditions. Workers will remove algae, marine growth, and debris from cages and cultivation equipment to promote healthy oyster growth. To prevent oysters from binding together and to encourage uniform development, workers will flip, inspect, clean, and maintain cages on a regular basis throughout the growing season. As oysters mature, workers will carefully transfer them into larger growing compartments and continue monitoring their growth until they reach market size. Workers will measure oyster growth, maintain cultivation records as directed, and monitor water-parcel conditions necessary for successful production. Once oysters reach commercial size, workers will retrieve cages from employer-owned water parcels, transport cages to the dock, remove market-sized oysters, and wash shells to remove algae, slime, residue, debris, seaweed, sand, and other natural marine growth. Harvested oysters will be sorted, graded, placed into sacks, containers, or bins, and prepared for transportation to seafood processors, wholesalers, distributors, or commercial buyers. Workers will not shuck or open oyster shells. Workers may perform general oyster farm maintenance, including maintenance of docks, work areas, boats, cultivation equipment, and related farm infrastructure used in the employer's seasonal oyster cultivation and harvesting operations. The employer will provide housing, tools, and transportation at no cost to workers. Transportation will pick up all workers from the housing at 5756 Hwy 56, Chauvin, LA 70344, in Terrebonne County, including those who do not reside there, and transport them to the work locations. The employer will also transport all workers back to housing at the end of each workday at no cost to workers. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday: 7:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Saturday: 7:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M.
