- Offer description:
Workers will perform assigned duties as described in this clearance order and as instructed by their supervisors. One (1) month of prior experience in sugarcane planting, harvesting, or closely related agricultural work is required. The employer will provide job-specific orientation, including work procedures, equipment safety, and operational instruction necessary to perform assigned duties. A cane planter will be assigned to designated fields prepared for planting. Crews will generally consist of nine (9) workers performing planting-related activities, including loading, unloading, planting, and cutting seed cane. Each crew will work alongside tractors pulling wagons loaded with seed cane. Workers may ride on wagons positioned in the field and will place seed cane into prepared rows at designated intervals. Workers assigned to cutting duties will chop seed cane into appropriate planting lengths according to employer specifications and quality standards. Workers must consistently follow planting procedures and quality standards to ensure proper crop establishment. To maintain the pace of field operations, workers are expected to perform planting and chopping duties in accordance with the employer's quality and productivity standards. New workers will receive a fourteen (14) day paid acclimatization and orientation period to become familiar with the employer's specific methods, field pace, and work expectations. As an incidental and infrequent duty, workers may occasionally assist with the positioning of equipment or movement of seed cane within the farm premises. Any operation of tractors or forklifts will be limited to routine on-farm activities, performed only after employer-provided instruction and under employer supervision. No prior tractor or forklift operating experience, commercial driver's license, or specialized external certification is required for these incidental on-farm duties. General Farm Maintenance and Other Activities: When primary planting or harvesting work is temporarily unavailable due to weather conditions, crop conditions, operational needs, or other lawful business reasons, workers may be assigned miscellaneous incidental duties directly related to the agricultural operation. These duties will not replace or substantially reduce the availability of primary agricultural work. Such duties may include general maintenance and clean-up of the worksite, farm property, and agricultural structures; weeding, trimming, digging, cutting, topping, and removal of weeds, vines, debris, and trash from fields and fence lines; installation and removal of plastic mulch and irrigation drip tape; irrigation maintenance and repair; and other crop-production-related activities. Field sanitation activities may include cleaning, disinfecting, maintaining, and performing minor repairs to harvest buckets, bins, trailers, hand tools, and similar agricultural equipment. Workers may also assist with the routine cleaning, washing, lubrication, and minor upkeep of farm vehicles and equipment, including tractors, trucks, buses, trailers, and harvest machinery. Workers may be required to assist with the basic cleaning and upkeep of employer-provided housing and common-use facilities, limited to minor maintenance necessary to maintain safe, sanitary, and healthy living conditions.
