- Offer description:
All applicants must be able, willing and qualified to perform the work described in the job order and must be available for the entire period of employment specified in Section A.3 & A.4. This work order is for willing, able, and qualified individuals to prepare and cook family-style meals for approximately 187 workers in a bunkhouse setting. Workers must be able to prepare and cook Jamaican cuisine and be responsible for planning daily menus, washing dishes, and baking bread and pastries. Duties also include ordering and purchasing food and supplies, properly storing food in designated areas according to temperature and food safety requirements, and monitoring inventory to prevent spoilage. Workers must maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen by regularly cleaning work areas, equipment, utensils, cookware, and dishes. To perform these duties, workers must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods, bend frequently, and frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Workers must perform all assigned duties in a safe, efficient, and sanitary manner, in compliance with all applicable food safety and sanitation standards promulgated by the New York State Department of Health. Because workers are responsible for food preparation and kitchen operations, workers are required to maintain a neat appearance and adhere to high standards of personal hygiene at all times. Workers must be available to work 10-hour shifts within the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday through Friday. Workers may offer to work on Saturday, subject to mutual agreement between the employer and the employee. This schedule totals 60 hours per week. The 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. range accounts for varying farm conditions (e.g., weather or crop readiness) to ensure that workers are able to complete the required weekly hours. Workers will not be scheduled to work a full 12-hour shift. Workers may be offered additional hours beyond the standard schedule, subject to the mutual agreement of the worker and management. Workers will be provided with a 30-minute lunch break, staggered between 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., as determined by both the workers and management. Workers may choose where to eat their lunch and must return to work after the 30-minute break. The daily and weekly work schedules may vary due to weather, sunlight, temperature, crop conditions, or other operational factors. The employer will notify workers of any changes to the schedule. Daily start and end times, as well as the number of hours worked per day, will vary depending on the work schedules of the workers being served. The employer will provide one day of training and two days of work to demonstrate satisfactory performance of the duties described in this job description. The employer will provide at no cost to the workers, all tools and equipment required to perform the assigned duties. Workers must be able to understand and follow directions in simple English. After hiring, the employer may conduct random drug testing at the employer’s discretion if behavior is questionable at no cost to the worker.
