Workers will perform duties associated with the cultivation, care, harvesting, handling, storage, and processing of agricultural commodities produced by the employer. Duties include harvesting apples, cherries, peaches, raspberries, flowers, and other crops grown by the employer; assisting with the production of sweet cider from apples grown on the farm; maintaining an adequate supply of apples and cider inventory; operating agricultural equipment including tractors, forklifts, tow motors, and other farm equipment; retrieving and transporting apple bins and other agricultural products from on-farm storage facilities; sorting apples and removing damaged, decayed, or otherwise unsuitable fruit prior to cider production; assisting with the setup, operation, and cleanup of cider production equipment; cleaning and sanitizing work areas, equipment, and facilities in accordance with applicable New York State Department of Agriculture standards; monitoring and documenting quality control and food safety checkpoints during the cider production process; loading, unloading, and moving agricultural products and supplies; and performing general farm labor related to crop production, handling, storage, packing, and processing. Workers will plant, cultivate, prune, thin, weed, irrigate, harvest, grade, sort, pack, load, and store apples, cherries, peaches, raspberries, flowers, and other agricultural commodities. Workers may mow, maintain orchard and field grounds, install and remove trellis systems, perform hand labor in orchards and fields, and assist with post-harvest activities. Workers will perform all tasks necessary for the care, cultivation, harvesting, storage, and preparation of agricultural products grown by the employer.-Operate or tend equipment used in agricultural production, such as tractors, combines, and irrigation equipment. -Adjust, repair, and service farm machinery and notify supervisors when machinery malfunctions. -Attach farm implements such as plows, discs, sprayers, or harvesters to tractors, using bolts and hand tools. -Operate towed machines such as seed drills or manure spreaders to plant, fertilize, dust, and spray crops. -Weigh crop-filled containers, and record weights and other identifying information. -Walk beside or ride on planting machines while inserting plants in planter mechanisms at specified intervals. -Operate trucks or other multi-purpose vehicles to transport workers from housing (weather on or off the farm) to the farm properties; haul tools, supplies, or crops; transport workers from place to place around the farm properties during the workday (including on public roads to reach the farm fields); and/or transport workers to the grocery store, bank, or laundry facilities on an as needed basis Those that are requested to drive will be required to possess an appropriate license, no one will be rejected for this position that does not possess a drivers license. The activities outlined in the job description will be conducted solely on the worksite which is owned and operated by the employer. Workers are expected to work the number of days and hours specified. Depending on weather, crop or other conditions, workers may be requested, but not required to work up to seven days per week and/or on the Sabbath and will be paid overtime accordingly. Employer will furnish workers, without cost, all the tools and equipment required in the performance of the duties assigned. Workers should report for work with their own suitable clothes. While working in the field, phone usage is limited to emergency use only. Workers may be required to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, stand for extended periods, bend, stoop, kneel, climb ladders, and lift and carry up to 60 pounds. Workers will perform any other agricultural duties as assigned that are directly related to the production, harvesting, handling, and processing of the employer's agricultural commodities.
