- Offer description:
All applicants must be able, willing and qualified to perform the work described in the job order and must be available for the entire period of employment specified in Section A.3 & A.4. This work order seeks qualified workers to perform duties related to harvesting produce in an apple orchard. This includes picking apples and repeatedly climbing and handling a 20-foot ladder while carrying an apple-picking bucket harnessed over the shoulders. Additional responsibilities may include removing rocks to prepare soil for planting, training and pruning apple trees, and performing other general farm tasks as needed. Workers may also be asked to drive tractors, pick up brushes from the orchard floor, repair broken bins, and plant and water trees. Workers may be asked to operate trucks or other multi-purpose vehicles to transport workers from housing (whether on or off farm) to the farm properties; haul tools, supplies, or crops; transport workers from place to place around the farm properties during the workday (including on public roads to reach farmer's fields); and/or transport workers to the grocery store, bank, or laundry facilities on an as needed basis. Workers that are requested to drive will be required to possess a valid driver’s license; no worker will be rejected for not having a driver's license. Workers who do drive will still perform the same field work and other duties as non-driving workers; driving is not a primary duty. Workers are expected to report to work wearing suitable clothing and must be willing and able to perform duties in a variety of weather conditions, including when plants are wet from dew or rain. Workers may also be required to work during light rain, snow, moderate winds, direct sunlight, high humidity, and extreme temperatures. The assigned duties are physically demanding and require prolonged standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and climbing ladders. Workers must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis. When harvesting apples, productivity must be at least 60 1-1/8-bushel boxes per 7 hours worked with no more than 5% bruising for fresh market. Workers may be required to work 8-hour shifts between the hours of 7:00am to 7:00pm from Monday through Friday and may be required to work 4-hour shifts between the hours of 7:00am to 7:00pm on Saturdays. This schedule totals 44 hours per week. The 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. range accounts for varying orchard conditions (e.g. weather, crop maturity, harvest demands) to ensure that workers are able to complete the required weekly hours. Workers will not be scheduled for a full 12-hour shift. Workers will be given 30 minutes of unpaid time for lunch which is staggered between 11am to 1pm as decided by the workers and management. Workers may choose where to eat their lunch and return to work after their 30 minutes are up. The daily and weekly work schedules may vary depending on orchard conditions, including weather, sunlight, temperature, and crop readiness. The employer will notify workers of any changes to the schedule. The employer will provide one day of training and allow two days of work for workers to demonstrate satisfactory performance of orchard duties. The employer will provide all tools and equipment necessary to perform assigned orchard tasks at no cost to the workers. Workers must be able to operate agricultural equipment safely and must be able to understand and follow instructions in simple English. Two (2) workers starting on August 20, 2026, and ending on November 10, 2026. Two (2) workers starting on September 04, 2026, and ending on November 10, 2026.
