Workers will also wash, pack, label, sort, weigh, and store harvested greens and other products according to variety and quality standards. Additional responsibilities include general field and facility maintenance such as weeding, hoeing, pulling or cutting string, removing plant debris, and keeping work areas clean and organized. Workers may also be required to load boxes, and transport products, including lifting full containers weighing approximately 35 pounds and dumping buckets of tomatoes into bins while carefully removing stems and avoiding damage to the fruit. Workers must be able to use hand tools such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, shears, knives. The work is physically demanding and requires prolonged periods of bending, crouching, kneeling, stooping, walking, and standing. Workers are expected to arrive on time, follow directions, adapt quickly to changing tasks, and work effectively as part of a team. Workers must be available to work 8-hour shifts within the hours of 7:00am to 7:00pm Monday through Friday. This schedule totals 40 hours per week. The 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. range accounts for varying crop conditions (e.g., weather or crop readiness) to ensure that workers are able to complete the required weekly hours. Workers will not be scheduled to work a full 12-hour shift. Workers may be offered additional hours beyond the standard scheduled hours and/or days, subject to the mutual agreement of the employee and management. Workers will be provided with at least a 30-minute lunch break, staggered between 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., as determined by both the workers and management. Workers may choose where to eat their lunch and must return to work after the 30-minute break. In addition, workers will receive a 15-minute break in the morning and a 15-minute break in the afternoon, as agreed upon by the worker and management. The daily and weekly work schedules may vary due to weather, sunlight, temperature, crop conditions, or other factors. The employer will notify workers of any changes to the schedule. The employer will provide one day of training and two days of work to demonstrate satisfactory performance of the duties described in this job description. The employer will provide, at no cost to the workers, all tools and equipment required to perform the assigned duties. Workers must be able to understand and follow directions in simple English.
