- Offer description:
This role is responsible for identifying and removing undesirable plants, weeds, and off type vegetation from agricultural seed production fields to maintain crop purity, quality, and uniformity. This position is essential to preserving the genetic integrity of seed crops and ensuring harvested seeds remain true to the intended variety for future planting. Duties include inspecting fields for diseased plants, invasive weeds, abnormal plant growth, and plants that differ from desired crop characteristics such as color, shape, maturity rate, or variety type. Roguing activities are conducted throughout multiple stages of crop development, including the seedling, flowering, fruiting, and maturity stages, requiring employees to carefully evaluate and manually remove unwanted vegetation to prevent contamination and maintain high agricultural production standards. The role requires the use of hand tools such as shovels and other field equipment to thoroughly remove unwanted plants from agricultural fields. Employees must be capable of walking long distances across uneven terrain and performing repetitive manual labor for extended periods in outdoor environments. Work is frequently performed under challenging weather conditions, including prolonged exposure to heat and direct sunlight. Candidates must demonstrate strong attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to follow agricultural quality standards, field procedures, and safety requirements. Knowledge of plant identification, crop development, and seed production practices is beneficial. Strict adherence to workplace safety protocols is required at all times. Employees are required to wear personal protective equipment provided by the employer or contractor, including snake guards, eye protection, gloves, and other required safety gear while working at designated field locations. Failure to comply with safety requirements may result in removal from the work site. Additional responsibilities include maintaining seed crop purity and quality standards, inspecting crops during multiple stages of plant growth and development, removing invasive weeds and undesirable vegetation using hand tools, following all agricultural production and safety procedures, and working efficiently in physically demanding outdoor conditions. Candidates must possess the physical endurance and capability to traverse considerable distances on foot and perform sustained manual labor, often under demanding environmental conditions, including prolonged exposure to elevated temperatures.
