- Offer description:
Workers will perform assign duties as instructed by their supervisor. The activities to be performed by the workers will be based on the various tasks that are essential for the care of the plants and the proper operation of the facilities. The following is a description of the activities to be carried out by the employees during their workday: Primary Harvesting Operations: Agricultural nursery operations specializing in the field harvesting of Sabal palm trees. Work includes ground-level cutting, mechanical digging, root ball preparation, wrapping, loading, and transportation. These are field-grown Sabal palms harvested from ranch land using equipment. No tree climbing or hazardous removals will be performed. Nursery Maintenance & Cultivation: Workers are in charge of transplanting different types of plants, ranging from seeds to large seedlings. To do this, they dig holes in the soil, place the plant, and ensure that the roots are well covered so the plant will grow healthy. Employees will remove weeds growing around the plants; by getting rid of the weeds, plants can grow without competition for water and nutrients. To protect plants from pests and diseases, workers will apply pesticides or fungicides carefully, following instructions and taking necessary precautions to avoid damaging the plants or the environment. Irrigation, Pruning, and Care: Workers will be in charge of watering the plants, either manually or using automatic irrigation systems, ensuring each type of plant receives the necessary amount of water for correct development. Employees will prune plants by cutting dry or damaged branches to encourage healthier growth and will trim parts to give the plant a proper shape. Employees will also apply fertilizers to ensure that plants receive the nutrients they need to grow strong. Equipment Maintenance: Workers will also be responsible for maintaining farm tools and equipment in good condition. This includes cleaning and caring for shovels, pruning shears, and other hand tools used in daily operations. Workers must be able to perform strenuous manual labor outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain, for a minimum of six (6) hours per day. The position requires physical strength and endurance to bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods, as well as manual dexterity to repetitively use hands at a sustained pace to meet production standards. The employer will provide all necessary tools and equipment at no charge to the worker. Consistent with applicable law, the employer may recover the reasonable cost of repair or replacement of tools if damage results from the worker’s willful misconduct or gross negligence after the damage has occurred and after gaining the employee's written authorization to make the deduction. At its sole discretion, the employer may pay a higher wage rate based on individual performance or tenure, which does not alter the entry-level requirements of this position. When production needs require, the employer may offer hours in excess of the daily or weekly schedule stated in the ETA-790. These additional hours are strictly voluntary and not guaranteed; no worker is required to work beyond the contracted hours, on federal holidays, or on their Sabbath, and no worker will be penalized for declining such work. Due to the nature of agriculture, workers should expect occasional periods of little or no work due to weather, crop maturity, or other conditions beyond the employer's control. These periods may occur at any time throughout the season. In the event of a worker-requested leave of absence during periods of available work, all missed hours will be deducted from the actual hours worked but will be credited as "hours offered" toward the fulfillment of the three-quarter guarantee. Workers are responsible for providing their own suitable work clothing.
