Position feed bunks and water troughs for easy access to calves. Ensure that calves have access to fresh, clean water at all times. Mix feed. For 40 -50 days feed calves free-choice feed that includes wet corn gluten, corn and cottonseed hulls. Move calves to “grow yards”. Calves are forage-fed native grasses or cheap feed for about 150 days. Observe cattle closely for signs of distress, illness, or injury. Inspect and repair fences, ranch buildings, receiving areas, loading docks etc. Keep all areas clean and free of debris. Perform general farm labor jobs: maintenance on farm equipment (clean, oil, repair); repair and clean ranch buildings (sheds, barns, etc.); mow areas around buildings and keep clean and free from debris; control grass and weeds. Drive tractors and four wheelers, load and unload pallets with tractor.
