All applicants must be able, willing and qualified to perform the work described in the job order and must be available for the entire period of employment specified in Section A.3 & A.4. Workers will perform tasks related to the planting, cultivating, and harvesting of diversified ground crops. Workers will drive, operate, adjust, and maintain farm machines; prepare soil for planting; perform manual tasks like pruning, weeding, and thinning; drive tractor for spraying pesticides and mowing; repair and maintain irrigation systems; harvest, grade, and pack fruit and vegetables; and perform other farm related duties as the need arises. Workers may use hand tools such as shovels, saws, and hoes. Workers may be asked to operate trucks or other multi-purpose vehicles to transport workers from housing (whether on or off farm) to the farm properties; haul tools, supplies, or crops; transport workers from place to place around the farm properties during the workday (including on public roads to reach farmer's fields); and/or transport workers to the grocery store, bank, or laundry facilities on an as needed basis. Workers that are requested to drive will be required to possess a valid driver’s license. No worker will be rejected for not having a driver's license. Workers who do drive will still perform the same field work and other duties as non-driving workers; driving is not a primary duty. Workers must be able to handle and climb a 20-foot ladder repetitively while carrying an apple picking bucket which is harnessed over the workers' shoulders. During harvest, productivity must be at least 60 1-1/8 bushel boxes per 7 hours worked with no more than 5% bruising for fresh market. The work assigned will be physically demanding, long periods of standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, as well as climbing ladders for long periods of time will be required. Workers must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis. Work required in fields when plants are wet with dew and rain, and may be required during light rain, snow, moderate winds, direct sun, high humidity and extreme temperatures. Workers should report for work with their own suitable clothing. Workers must be available to work 9-hour shifts within the hours of 7:00am to 7:00pm Monday through Saturday. Workers may offer to work on Sunday, subject to mutual agreement between the employer and the worker. This schedule totals 54 hours per week. The 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. range accounts for varying orchard conditions (e.g., weather or crop readiness) to ensure that workers are able to complete the required weekly hours Workers will not be scheduled for a full 12-hour. Workers will be given a 30-minute lunch break which is staggered between 11am - 1pm as decided by the workers and management. Workers may choose where to eat their lunch and return to work after their 30 minutes are up. The daily and weekly work schedules may vary depending on orchard conditions, including weather, sunlight, temperature, and crop readiness. The employer will notify workers of any changes to the schedule. The employer will provide one day of training and allow two days of work for workers to demonstrate satisfactory performance of orchard duties, including pruning, thinning, and harvesting apples, pears, and plums. The employer will provide all tools and equipment necessary to perform assigned orchard tasks at no cost to the workers. Workers must be able to understand and follow directions in simple English.
