Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Duties may vary from time to time. Following the Supervisors instructions, the worker will perform the following tasks: Sweet Potatoes Planting, Maintaining & Hand Harvesting: Workers will cut plant from plant beds and green house, transplant plants into the soil by hand and machine, once fields are planted workers will maintain pulling weeds that may be interfering with the sweet potatoes maturing process, once the sweet potatoes are ready to be harvested workers will be repeatedly walking long distances in hot or cold weather conditions, harvesting by hand sweet potatoes into buckets; these buckets will be carried to a truck in the fields with empty bin boxes, at the end of the day employees should wash/ clean the buckets, wash/clean hydration stations or coolers and refill with clean water or ice. Tobacco Planting: Maintain greenhouse while tobacco plants are growing and are ready to be transplanted into the fields, on the transplant process workers will transplant tobacco plants into the ground by machine, once fields are planted employees will maintain fields pulling weeds that may be interfering on the tobacco growing process, workers repeatedly from time to time or as it is needed will sucker and topping tobacco plants by hand. Tobacco Harvesting: Workers will harvest tobacco by hand by pulling three (3) or four (4) leaves at a time from a plant and placing the leaves in the trailer. Once the leaves are taken to the barn, workers will place the harvested tobacco into boxes to prepare for the heating process. After the tobacco leaves have cured, the worker will remove the tobacco and bale it by filling a metal container to the desired weight and compacting the leaves together into bales. Tobacco Packinghouse Operator: Once tobacco reaches the packinghouse, the worker will place the tobacco in boxes to prepare for the heating process. After the curing process, the worker will remove the tobacco, sort and bale it by filling a metal container to desired weight that will compact the leaves together into bales. Bucket Unloading: Worker will stand inside the plastic or wood boxes and receive full buckets of sweet potatoes from other workers who have harvested the potatoes. The worker will then unload the sweet potatoes into the boxes. Workers are required to lift and carry at least 50 pounds. Packing House Worker: Hand-jack operators: Dump boxes onto conveyor belt, stacking empty boxes on a pallet and taping them up empty rejected by size and sorter into giant bin. Pick out damaged sweet potatoes on packing line. Stack completed boxes onto a pallet. Clean packing line at the end of each day, sweep floors, clean conveyor belts and machinery, clean drains. Patching pallets, sorting out damaged fresh produce. Forklift Operator: Moving sweet potatoes to packing line, moving completed pallets away from the packing line. Wrapping completed pallets and moving pallets to cooler. Packing houses are co-located on farm sites where some of the products are harvested. Workers will only pack produce harvested by the farmer who grew the product.
