All applicants must be able, willing and qualified to perform the work described in the job order and must be available for the entire period of employment specified in Section A.3 & A.4. Workers are needed to assist in planting, maintaining, and harvesting multiple fruit crops, including apples, blueberries, and strawberries. Workers must perform tasks efficiently and with attention to detail. Duties include farm vehicle and tractor maintenance and repair, cleaning and organizing equipment, barns, and shop spaces, and operating agricultural equipment safely. Workers must have previous commercial experience and the ability to perform various tasks required in fruit production, including hand-thinning, hand-weeding, pruning, pruning clean-up, tree stabilization, trunk painting, trellis installation, tree-training, and orchard sanitation. Workers will also help maintain overall farm cleanliness and orderliness. Workers may be asked to operate tractors, string trimmers, chainsaws, and other farm equipment necessary for crop and farm maintenance. Workers will sort, wash, pack, and otherwise prepare crops for storage and retail sale, as well as transport and deliver crops from the field to farm buildings. Workers will load and unload farm vehicles, set up and operate various types of irrigation equipment, and cut vegetation or brush in and around fields, buildings, fence lines, and equipment. Workers may be asked to operate trucks or other multi-purpose vehicles to transport workers from housing (whether on or off farm) to the farm properties; haul tools, supplies, or crops; transport workers from place to place around the farm properties during the workday (including on public roads to reach farmer's fields); and/or transport workers to the grocery store, bank, or laundry facilities on an as needed basis. Workers that are requested to drive will be required to possess a valid driver’s license; no worker will be rejected for not having a driver's license. Workers who do drive will still perform the same field work and other duties as non-driving workers; driving is not a primary duty. The work assigned will be physically demanding, bending, stooping and kneeling for long periods of time will be required. Workers must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. frequently. Workers should report for work with their own suitable clothing, must be willing to work in various extreme weather conditions from damp, cold spring and fall days to hot, humid summer days. In the event of inclement weather, workers may be asked to help with cleaning inside farm buildings and assist with cidery operations. Workers will also assist in preparation for pick-your-own operations including sign installation. Workers must be available to work 7.25- hour shifts within the hours of 7:00am to 7:00pm Monday through Saturday. This schedule totals 43.5 hours per week. The 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. range accounts for varying farm conditions (e.g., weather or crop readiness) to ensure that workers are able to complete the required weekly hours. Workers will not be scheduled to work a full 12-hour shift . Workers will be provided with at least a 30-minute lunch break, staggered between 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., as determined by both the workers and management. Workers may choose where to eat their lunch and must return to work after the 30-minute break. In addition, workers will receive a 15-minute break in the morning and a 15-minute break in the afternoon, as agreed upon by the worker and management. The daily and weekly work schedules may vary due to weather, sunlight, temperature, crop conditions, or other factors. The employer will notify workers of any changes to the schedule. Workers will receive one day of training and two days of work to demonstrate satisfactory performance of the duties described in this job description.
