Under the direction of the Vineyard Manager, supervise field activities of vineyard laborers who are engaged in planting, cultivating, and harvesting wine grapes. Assign duties, such as planting, pruning, canopy management, suckering, ranch maintenance, trellis installation, irrigation, equipment operation and harvesting. Load and drive trucks as needed to transport wine grapes from the field to processing centers. Record information about crops, such as pesticide use, yields, or costs. Direct and monitor the work of vineyard laborers during the pre-harvest phase of the season and harvesting phase. Generally repair and maintain farm equipment, vehicles and machinery as needed in a shop setting. Communicate and collaborate with growers’ staff to get instructions, scope of work and project needs for coordination with labor crews. Maintain inventory; Qualifying workers may operate specialized vineyard tractor machinery after undergoing several hours of safety training and passing a hands-on tractor driving exam. May drive vans or vehicles to assist employer with the daily transportation of H-2A and U.S. corresponding employees. Must use all required personal protective clothing and equipment and follow all safety protocols, which includes observing all warning signs, safety bulletins, safety training, and other safety directives required by the employer or by state law. Position requires travel within the area of intended employment, which includes visiting worksites to work with crews at the employer's contracted vineyards in the counties of Napa, Sonoma, and Mendocino in California.
