Crops/Commodities: Vegetables/garden crops, including, but not limited to, chiles, tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, pumpkins, peppers, and sweet corn. Cultivate crops through mechanical or manual methods, including weeding and applying fertilizers; Plant seeds and seedlings using various planting techniques and equipment, including seed drill sand planters; Apply fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides to crops using hand sprayers and other equipment; Conduct regular crop inspections to monitor growth, pest activity, and plant health; Harvest crops using machinery or by hand, ensuring proper handling to maintain quality. Set up and operate irrigation equipment, including laying pipes, maintaining ditches, and ensuring adequate water supply to crops; Perform flood irrigation for the crops specified herein. Duties include, but are not limited to: • Set up, start, regulate, and shut off flood irrigation water using headgates, turnouts, checks, siphon tubes, and flood valves. • Open and close flood valves and gates to direct water to furrows/borders/fields; adjust flows to meet irrigation schedules and soil moisture needs. • Monitor water movement and distribution to prevent overwatering, ponding, runoff, and erosion; correct uneven distribution as needed. • Inspect lines, ditches, berms, checks, turnout structures, and field water runs for leaks, breaks, blockages, or washouts; perform minor repairs (e.g., clearing debris, shoveling, tamping, patching small leaks, resetting siphon tubes, building/repairing small berms/checks). • Measure and record irrigation set times, water changes, field conditions, and water use information as directed by supervisor. • Patrol irrigated fields to ensure proper flow, including periodic checks after sets are started. • Maintain tools and irrigation equipment; keep work areas clean and orderly. • Communicate irrigation status and any issues (leaks, breaks, poor flow, equipment problems) promptly to supervisor. • Perform related general farm work as assigned when irrigation duties allow. Work hours may vary based on crop needs, weather, and water availability. Irrigation is time-sensitive and depends on water delivery schedules. Worker must be available to monitor and adjust flood irrigation throughout the day and may be required to check, open, close, or adjust flood valves/headgates during nighttime hours to maintain proper irrigation sets, prevent flooding, and protect fields and equipment. Worker will receive all required meal and rest breaks and will be paid for all hours worked. Workers with a clean driving record (no major moving violations such as but not limited to Driving While Intoxicated or Reckless Driving) and able to obtain an insurable driver's license may drive company vehicles. Workers with appropriate licenses and a valid doctor's certificate may transport other workers to-and-from DiTomaso Farm, LLC's provided housing directly to worksites each day and transporting workers around client's farm during the workday and possibly carrying equipment/supplies and this may involve the worker(s) operating the vehicles across public roads in order to reach the other farm properties to perform their work. Workers are driving multipurpose vehicles that have a capacity of less than 13 tons, require a standard driver's license to operate, and may be used on or off farm by the workers (e.g., drive to the grocery store, bank, etc. at their discretion). Workers are not required or expected to arrange for the routine pick-up of another worker or groups of workers on a regular schedule at other housing locations or centralized pick-up points.
