Pries Farms is a 1,500 acre potato and grain farm in Delaware. We are seeking a full-time farm mechanic to repair and maintain farm equipment including tractors, implements, planting and harvesting equipment, 10-wheel diesel trucks, 6-wheel trucks, and pickup trucks. This position would also be responsible for managing the shop and controlling the inventory of parts and supplies. Other potential field operations would include pivot irrigation maintenance, repairs and operation, driving trucks to transport crops to elevator, driving potato trucks during harvest, and cleaning equipment and trucks. Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery. Inspect, repair, and maintain automotive and mechanical equipment and machinery, such as pumps and compressors. Disassemble and overhaul internal combustion engines, pumps, generators, transmissions, clutches, and differential units. Maintain, repair, and overhaul farm machinery and vehicles, such as tractors, harvesters, and irrigation systems. Dismantle defective machines for repair, using hand tools. Record details of repairs made and parts used. Reassemble machines and equipment following repair, testing operation and making adjustments, as necessary. Test and replace electrical components and wiring, using test meters, soldering equipment, and hand tools. Repair or replace defective parts, using hand tools, milling and woodworking machines, lathes, welding equipment, grinders, or saws. Drive trucks to haul tools and equipment for on-site repair of large machinery. Repair agricultural irrigation, plumbing, and sprinkler systems. Drive trucks with capacities greater than 3 tons, including 10-wheeler trucks, to transport and deliver products, crops, or other materials. Inspect and maintain vehicle supplies and equipment, such as gas, oil, water, tires, lights, or brakes, to ensure that vehicles are in proper working condition. Maintain records, such as vehicle logs, records of cargo, or billing statements, in accordance with regulations. Perform emergency repairs, such as changing tires or installing light bulbs, fuses, tire chains, or spark plugs.Load and unload crops or containers of materials, manually or using conveyors, hand trucks, and forklifts. Observe and listen to machinery operation to detect equipment malfunctions. Manipulate controls to set, activate, and adjust mechanisms on machinery. Operate or tend equipment used in agricultural production, such as tractors, combines, and irrigation equipment. Drive trucks to haul crops, supplies, tools, or farm workers. Drive and operate farm machinery to plant, cultivate, harvest and store grain crops. Till soil; plant and cultivate grain. Use hand tools, such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, or precision instruments, as well as power tools, such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, or jacks and hoists. Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure that they are in proper operating condition.
