- Offer description:
All applicants must be able, willing and qualified to perform the work described in the job order and must be available for the entire period of employment specified in Section A.3 & A.4. Workers are needed to assist in planting, maintaining and harvesting various vegetable crops, and greenhouse tomatoes. Workers may perform greenhouse tomato production including harvesting, grading, suckering, lowering, clipping and thinning. Workers will perform field work including planting, transplanting, weeding, thinning, hoeing and other tasks required in the planting, maintaining, and harvesting of various vegetable and fruit crops. Workers may sort, wash, pack and otherwise prepare various crops for storage and shipping, as well as transport and deliver various crops from field to farm and/or retail stand. Workers will load and unload trucks and other farm vehicles; set up and operate various irrigation equipment; cut brush and other vegetation in and around fields, buildings and equipment; assist in building maintenance and repairing farm structures. Workers may be asked to operate trucks or other multi-purpose vehicles to transport workers from housing (whether on or off farm) to the farm properties; haul tools, supplies, or crops; transport workers from place to place around the farm properties during the workday (including on public roads to reach farmer's fields); and/or transport workers to the grocery store, bank, or laundry facilities on an as needed basis. Workers that are requested to drive will be required to possess a valid driver’s license; no worker will be rejected for not having a driver's license. Workers who do drive will still perform the same field work and other duties as non-driving workers; driving is not a primary duty. Workers must be able to operate agricultural equipment safely, and work in various extreme weather conditions from damp, cold spring and fall days to hot, humid summer days. The work is physically demanding, requiring workers to stand, bend, stoop, and kneel for extended periods of time. Workers must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis. Workers may be required to work 8-hour shifts between the hours of 7:00am - 7:00pm on Monday and Tuesday, may be required to work a 6-hour shift between the hours of 7:00am - 7:00pm on Wednesday, may be required to work 8 hours between the hours of 7:00am to 7:pm on Thursday to Friday, and employer may offer work on Saturdays. This totals 40 hours per week. The 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM range accounts for farm conditions (e.g., weather or crop readiness) to ensure workers complete the required hours. Workers will not work a full 12-hour shift unless mutually agreed upon by both employer and the employee. Workers will be given at least a 30-minute lunch break which is staggered between 11am - 1pm as decided by the workers and management. Workers may choose where to eat their lunch and return to work after their 30 minutes are up. The daily or weekly work schedules may vary due to weather, sunlight, temperature, crop conditions, and other factors. Employers will notify workers of any change to the schedule. The employer will provide 1 day of training and allow 2 days of work for the workers to satisfactorily perform duties described in this job description. Employer will furnish to workers without cost all tools and equipment required to perform all duties assigned. No Tobacco smoking on the farm/property, employer provided or secured housing, this includes any vehicles owned by employer or farm. Workers should report for work with their own suitable clothing and must be able to take directions in simple English.
