Duties include pruning, thinning, training, tying, and trimming apple trees; installing and maintaining trellis systems; assisting with irrigation; monitoring orchards and asparagus fields for pests and disease; and applying crop protection materials as needed. Workers will hand harvest apples and asparagus; perform field quality control; handle, sort, and load harvested product; and assist with cooling and proper storage of apples and asparagus to maintain quality standards. Workers will operate agricultural equipment including tractors, loaders, forklifts, and motorized platforms in orchard and field operations. Duties include mowing, spraying apple orchards and asparagus fields, tillage, earth moving, hauling sand, dirt, and gravel for agricultural purposes, moving bins, and loading and unloading trucks with raw and/or finished product. Workers will load and unload harvested apples and asparagus and other agricultural materials as needed. Workers may operate pickup trucks and farm vehicles to transport harvested apples, asparagus, sand, dirt, gravel, and agricultural materials between orchard blocks, asparagus fields, storage, and packing areas. A valid driver’s license is required. A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is not required at the time of hire; however, workers must be able and willing to obtain a CDL if requested by the employer and if required for assigned duties. Workers will assist with the packing of apples and asparagus, including sorting, grading, packing, stacking, labeling, and preparing product for shipment. Workers will operate and manage packing lines, including monitoring product flow, adjusting packing materials, maintaining cleanliness, ensuring product quality standards are met, and maintaining production efficiency. Basic computer skills are required to operate and monitor packing line systems, enter production data, track product movement, and maintain packing records. Additional duties include building and repairing wooden apple bins; maintaining harvest carts; performing basic orchard, asparagus field, and grounds maintenance; maintaining packing and cooling equipment; and cleaning and sanitizing equipment and work areas. Workers must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, work outdoors in varying weather conditions, stand for extended periods, bend, kneel, and perform repetitive movements throughout the workday. All duties are agricultural and directly related to the employer’s apple and asparagus production operations. Drug screens will be conducted post-hire and upon accident or incident and will be at the cost of the employer. Failure or refusal of the drug test is grounds for immediate termination. During the harvest and peak seasons, workers can expect to work up to 70 hours per week.
