- Offer description:
All applicants must be able, willing, and qualified to perform the work described in this job description and must be available for the entire period of employment specified in box A.3 & A.4. Workers will perform a combination of tasks such as: fertilizing, spreading manure, stone removal, and harvesting of hay and corn according to the instructions of the supervisor. Workers will drive tractors and other large farm equipment, including loaders, tandem and/or semi tractor-trailer trucks, and skid steers. Workers must know how to perform light mechanical work, such as oil and tire changes. Workers are required to check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order. Workers will be required to maintain a clean interior and exterior of vehicles and equipment. The workers must have a Class D non-commercial drivers license. Optionally, workers will be given 90 days from job start to obtain an F endorsement from the State of New York, to operate a Designated Covered Farm Vehicle within New York State. Employer will cover the expense of obtaining this F endorsement. Workers who do obtain the F endorsement will be eligible for discretionary bonus pay up to $2 per hour. Workers will operate trucks or other multi-purpose vehicles to transport workers from housing (whether on or off farm) to the farm properties; haul tools, supplies, or crops; transport workers from place to place around the farm properties during the workday (including on public roads to reach farmer's fields); and/or transport workers to the grocery store, bank, or laundry facilities on an as-needed basis. Workers will be compensated at the correct rate of pay for all hours worked, including when they are performing the employer’s obligation of driving. Performance, attendance, attitude, and work ethic will also be considered. Random drug testing will be at the owner's expense. From May to November, the workers will have multiple hay harvests. From September to October, the workers will harvest corn. Workers will perform other duties that are necessary to the harvesting of hay and corn. Post-harvest of crops, workers will cover forage with plastic and tires. Workers will load and unload trucks and must have the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently. Work requires sitting, standing, kneeling, and bending for long periods of time. Workers must be willing to work in varied, unpredictable weather conditions from cold, damp spring/fall days to hot, humid summer days. Beginning and ending times will vary depending on crop and weather conditions. Workers will work a 9-hour shift within the 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM window Monday through Friday, plus a 7-hour shift within the same window on Saturday. This totals 52 hours per week. The 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM range accounts for farm conditions (e.g., weather or crop readiness) to ensure workers complete the required hours. Workers will not work a full 12-hour shift. Exact daily hours will depend on weather and crop conditions. If weather prevents a scheduled work day, workers may also be required to work on Sunday. Workers will be given a 30-minute lunch break, and 15-minute breaks in the morning and afternoon. Workers must take directions in simple English.
