Workers will perform a combination of tasks involved in the planting, cultivating and harvesting of diversified ground crops, according to the instructions of the supervisor. Workers must have knowledge and ability to operate and repair farm machinery. Workers will work in a storage building washing, culling, and prepping produce for storage or distribution. Workers will plant in greenhouses, as well as plant and transplant crops in fields. Workers will perform field work of hand weeding, thinning, and hoeing, as well as other duties related to planting, maintaining and harvesting crops. Workers are required to stand, bend, and kneel for long periods of time in all weather. Workers may be asked to operate trucks or other multi-purpose vehicles to transport workers from housing (whether on or off farm) to the farm properties; haul tools, supplies, or crops; transport workers from place to place around the farm properties during the workday (including on public roads to reach farmer's fields); and/or transport workers to the grocery store, bank, or laundry facilities on an as needed basis. Workers that are requested to drive will be required to possess a valid driver’s license; no worker will be rejected for not having a driver's license. Workers who do drive will still perform the same field work and other duties as non-driving workers; driving is not a primary duty. Workers must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds independently and up to 100 pounds with assistance. Workers must be willing to work in varied weather ranging from extremely cold in the spring and fall to hot and humid in the summer. Workers will harvest the crops according to the quality and method of the employer. The employer will provide 1 day of training and allow 2 days of work for the workers to satisfactorily perform duties described in this job description. Workers will work a 9.5 -hour shift within the 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM window Monday through Saturday. This totals 57 hours per week. Workers will be given 30 minutes for lunch and a 15-minute break in the morning and afternoon. The beginning and ending times, as well as the number of hours per day will vary depending on the weather and the conditions of the crops. Employers will furnish all tools and equipment required at no cost to workers. Workers must be able to take direction in simple English.
