- Offer description:
Crops/Commodities: Sweet Corn Primary duties (performed the majority of workdays): Workers will perform manual agricultural labor primarily related to the harvesting, grading and field packing of sweet corn. Duties include hand-harvesting mature ears of sweet corn by walking through fields and repeatedly bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching to grasp, snap, and remove ears from stalks. Harvested corn will be placed or tossed into containers, bags, trailers, or conveyors. Workers will sort and grade corn in the field based on size, maturity, and quality; trim husks as needed; pack corn into boxes, crates, or bulk containers; and remove damaged or diseased ears. Primary duties also include loading and unloading harvested corn, stacking or arranging packed containers, securing loads when required and transporting produce short distances within the field or to field packing areas. After packaging, workers may inspect packed sweet corn and containers to ensure proper count, weight, quality, labeling, and overall condition, and may remove or repackage products that do not meet quality standards. Secondary duties (performed on less than half of the workdays in the contract period): Workers may perform duties incidental to the farming operation including hand-weeding or hoeing, removing crop debris, pulling stalks after harvest, maintaining field sanitation, and assisting with irrigation-related tasks such as laying, removing, or repairing irrigation lines. Workers may use simple hand tools such as knives, clippers, hoes, and shovels and may assist equipment operators. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honey bees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a worker's ability to perform the job. Persons seeking employment in this position must be available for the entire period requested by the employer. Employer reserves the right to discharge an obviously unqualified worker, malingerer or recalcitrant worker who is physically able but is unwilling to perform the work necessary for the employer to grow a premium quality product, or for any other lawful reason. Daily individual work assignments, crew assignments, and location of work, will be made by and at the sole discretion of the farm manager and/or farm supervisor as the needs of the farming operation dictate. Workers will be expected to perform any of the listed duties and work on any crop as assigned by the worker's supervisor. Harvesting specifications can change from time to time during the season due to crop or market conditions, even on the same crop. Workers will be expected to conform to the specific instructions given for each day's work. The farm owner/supervisor or a designated employee will provide specific instructions and close supervision. Workers will be expected to perform their duties in a timely and proficient manner and will have close supervision to ensure adherence to instruction. Work will be closely monitored and reviewed for quality. Employer attests that it has sent (or will promptly send) original surety bond to CNPC. Employer may request, but not require, workers to work more than the stated daily hours and/or on a worker's Sabbath or federal holidays. Worker must report to work at designated time and place each day. Daily or weekly work schedule may vary due to weather, sunlight, temperature, crop conditions, and other factors. Employer will notify workers of any change to start time. Workers will have an unpaid lunch break. TERMINATION. Prior to any termination for cause, employer evaluates workers' performance of required tasks and compliance with Work Rules and other employer policies.
