Primary duties (performed the majority of workdays): Perform duties related to the operation, maintenance, and repair of agricultural equipment used in the seasonal production of strawberries, melons, sweet corn, peas, tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, okra, and pecans. Operate agricultural machinery such as tractors, harvesters, planters, cultivators, sprayers, mowers, loaders, forklifts, and other farm implements to prepare fields, plant crops, cultivate growing crops, and assist with harvesting operations. The worker will adjust and monitor equipment to ensure proper operation based on crop type, field conditions, and production requirements, and will safely operate machinery throughout the season in support of planting, cultivation, and harvest activities. Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on agricultural equipment. Duties include inspecting machinery, lubricating moving parts, changing oil and filters, replacing belts and hoses, checking fluids, calibrating equipment, and performing minor mechanical adjustments to ensure equipment remains in proper working condition. The worker will clean and service equipment after use, assist with seasonal setup and breakdown of machinery, and report major mechanical issues to farm management. Secondary duties (performed on less than half of the workdays in the contract period): Perform general farm maintenance and upkeep. This includes maintaining equipment yards, shop areas, fuel storage areas, and irrigation components; assisting with upkeep of field roads and work areas necessary for safe equipment use; and supporting seasonal transitions between crops by preparing equipment and work areas for upcoming production phases. Work is performed outdoors in all types of weather and may require long hours during peak planting, cultivation, and harvesting periods. As a minor and incidental portion of the job, if needed, the Agricultural Equipment Operator may occasionally assist with general farm labor tasks in support of ongoing production activities when not engaged in equipment operation or maintenance. These duties may include assisting with manual field tasks such as spreading or removing ground covers, removing plastic by hand after crop cycles, planting roots, seeds, or bulbs, pruning or trimming plants, thinning or weeding crops, staking or trellising plants, detasseling corn, roguing fields to remove off-type plants, and monitoring crop growth as directed. Workers may also assist with limited hand-harvest activities, including picking or cutting crops, handling harvested product carefully, placing product into containers, and performing basic inspection, counting, or sorting of produce. These tasks are performed only as needed. Assist with farm building/fence/field maintenance and repairs. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honey bees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a worker's ability to perform the job. Persons seeking employment in this position must be available for the entire period requested by the employer. Employer reserves the right to discharge an obviously unqualified worker, malingerer or recalcitrant worker who is physically able but is unwilling to perform the work necessary for the employer to grow a premium quality product, or for any other lawful reason. Employer may request, but not require, workers to work more than the stated daily hours and/or on a worker's Sabbath or federal holidays. Worker must report to work at designated time and place each day. Daily or weekly work schedule may vary due to weather, sunlight, temperature, crop conditions, and other factors. Employer will notify workers of any change to start time. Workers will have an unpaid lunch break.
