- Offer description:
Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor and will follow established procedures at all times. General Farm Labor: Workers will prepare land for planting, pull weeds, rake, hoe, sort and grade vegetables, load and unload vegetables, clean work areas, lay irrigation pipes, and dig ditches as directed. These duties are repetitive and physically demanding. Workers may lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. Planting: Workers will plant and replant crops as needed using manual methods and basic tools such as shovels, spades, or hand trowels. Tasks involve repetitive and physically demanding work. Workers may be required to ride on a mechanical planter to assist with planting under direct supervision. Training will be provided prior to performing these duties. Harvesting of Vegetables: Workers will harvest vegetables by moving down assigned rows and hand-picking produce, placing it into containers. When containers are full, workers will carry them to a truck or small trailer for unloading and then return to the assigned picking area to continue harvesting throughout the workday. Workers may assist with loading harvested crops onto trailers as directed. Vegetable Packing (On-Farm): Harvested vegetables will be transported to the on-farm packing area. Workers will sort vegetables according to size and quality, separate seed product as instructed, label and pack produce into containers, and prepare boxes for storage or shipment. More than 50 percent of the product handled is produced by the employer. Greenhouse Farm Labor: Seed Sowing: Workers will fill single-cell trays with soil medium, place seeds into cells, lightly cover seeds with soil, and move trays to designated growing areas. This work is repetitive and performed throughout the workday. Transplanting: Workers will transplant seedlings into individual containers once ready, placing one plant per container while moving through assigned greenhouse rows. Greenhouse Maintenance (Routine): Workers will perform routine greenhouse tasks such as weeding, trimming plants, sanitizing tools and trays, and assisting with irrigation setup as instructed. Workers will visually observe greenhouse equipment and report any issues to a supervisor. Workers will not diagnose problems or perform repairs. General Maintenance and Clean-Up (Incidental): When planting or harvesting work is unavailable, workers may perform incidental clean-up and maintenance activities related to agricultural operations. Tasks may include removing debris, weeds, and vines; laying or removing plastic; tying, staking, and pruning plants; cleaning irrigation components; cleaning work areas, tools, and equipment; and assisting with sanitation of housing and farm structures. These duties are incidental and will not replace primary agricultural work. Repacking and Sorting: Workers will grade, sort, and classify vegetables on a packing line based on size, color, and quality. Workers will place products into containers, label boxes, stack containers on pallets, and assist with loading and unloading harvested produce. Workers may weigh, count, or visually inspect products as instructed. Tractor Operation (Entry-Level): Workers may be required to operate tractors with attached equipment for field work incidental to their duties. Operation will occur under supervision and after safety instruction is provided. Workers are not responsible for repairs or mechanical adjustments and must report any issues to a supervisor. Cleaning and Sanitation: Workers will assist with farm and field sanitation, including picking up trash, cleaning restrooms, cleaning work areas, and maintaining fields and equipment. Workers may assist with minor fence repair and general upkeep as directed. As a minor and incidental activity, workers may assist with harvesting and baling pine straw from a small area at the housing site and loading or unloading bales as instructed.
