- Offer description:
Workers will plant hundreds of oyster seeds daily into specially designed cages located on company-leased water parcels (see attached leased water parcels) designated for our oyster cultivation. Workers are responsible for repairing any damaged cages, which may be affected by hurricanes or aquatic predators, such as snails and certain fish species, that pose risks to the oyster farming industry. During the growing period, workers will handle oysters delicately, measure growth rates, and inspect shells for signs of disease or fungus. Early detection and treatment of these issues are essential to support healthy growth in their natural water habitat. To promote rapid growth and prevent oysters from binding together, workers will flip all cages weekly. As the oysters grow, they will be transferred to larger cages, with periodic size measurements taken until they reach the commercial standard of 3 inches. Once the oysters are fully grown, workers will transport the cages back to the dock, open them, and remove the mature oysters. The oysters will then be hosed down to remove algae, slime, residue, debris, seaweed, sand, and any non-toxic growth on their shells. Finally, they will be placed into sacks for pick-up by wholesalers or processing plants. Workers will not open the oyster shells. The employer will provide housing, meals, tools, and transportation to workers at no cost. Transportation will pick up all workers at 337 Broadway Avenue, Schriever, Louisiana 70395 in Terrebonne County, including workers who do not reside at housing, and transport them to the work location. The employer will also transport all workers back to housing at the end of each workday. Work Schedule: Monday to Friday: 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM Saturday: 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM
