- Offer description:
Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Duties may vary from time to time. Sod/Turfgrass Planting: field laborers will operate tractor to plant sprigs to fields. Laborers will operate tractor with pull behind mowers. Tree and weed removal, picking up scrap sod from fields, with the following hand tools: Pitchforks, shovels, rakes, string trimmer, and machetes. Sod/Turfgrass Harvesting: Assisting the Sod Harvesting Manager with performing a second level of quality control. Sod/Turfgrass Rolling: Sod must be rolled before it is harvested. To roll the sod, Farm laborers operate a tractor at a speed of about 3 mph, while pulling a roller. Sod/Turfgrass Stacking: Hand stacking sod on back of the tractor. On days when we have large orders or the mechanical sod stacker breaks down, manual sod stackers are used. Taking little rolls of sod from a harvesting machine and manually stacking them on a pallet. Sod/Turfgrass: Loading by hand: Most sod is harvested by machine and stacked on a pallet in the field. Customers come out to the field and farm laborers take 2 by 5 little rolls of sod off the pallet and stack it on or in the customers vehicle. Little rolls of sod weigh about 30-40 pounds each. Must be able to transfer 50 little rolls of sod by hand, from a pallet held up load by a forklift to customers vehicles. Forklift operation: Using forklift to load empty pallets on the sod stacking machine, staging full pallets from the stacking line and loading little rolls of sod by hand on customers vehicles. Collecting harvested 2.5 by 80 big rolls, staging them for truck loading, and then load big rolls on the delivery trucks. Minor mechanical work associated with all jobs. Safety training for use of farm equipment and tractors will be provided. The ability of an employee to safely operate machinery will be left to the discretion of management. Workers with driver’s license may transport workers to/from worksites, housing, and grocery store.
