- Offer description:
Workers will plant, cultivate, harvest, grade, and pack a variety of crops, including peppers, cucumbers, cabbage, corn, squash, eggplant, tomatoes, onions, greens, zucchini, snap beans, watermelons, cantaloupe, and blueberries, by hand or machine. Duties include working on a packing line to sort and grade produce, assemble boxes, pack produce for shipment at the packing shed, and place finished product into coolers. Field duties include pruning, taking cuttings for propagation, loading trucks, repairing drip irrigation, cleaning greenhouses, laying landscape fabric, spraying, irrigation work, weeding, digging ditches, performing daily farm maintenance, and cleaning production areas and facilities. Workers will operate, clean, and maintain farm vehicles and equipment and will insert and remove stakes, string, and plastic as needed. Workers will also plant produce by hand by placing plants into pre-dug holes along rows. Harvest duties vary by crop. Workers will pick developed peppers and tomatoes by hand, placing them into buckets and ensuring plants are picked clean of all produce of the correct size and maturity. When buckets are full, workers will carry them to a dumper on a truck moving alongside the rows, taking care to avoid bruising the produce. Cucumbers will be harvested in the same manner. Squash, zucchini, and eggplant will be cut using a knife and placed into buckets until full, then carried to a dumper on a truck moving through the rows. Workers will cut greens using a knife, remove discolored or defective leaves, band bundles, and place them into boxes in the field. Once boxes are full, they will be carried to a truck moving alongside the rows. Cabbage will be cut using a knife and individually placed into a moving truck, ensuring rows are harvested clean of correctly sized heads with the proper number of leaves while handling heads gently. Corn will be harvested by hand, making sure stalks are pulled clean of all ears of correct size and maturity, placed into buckets, and carried to a dumper on a moving truck.
