Skill Level 1 Nursery: Duties including, but not limited to: Performing any combination of the following duties related to preparing soil and growing media, growing crops, and participating in horticultural activities. Drag and spread topsoil, fertilizers, etc. to condition the land. Dig, rake and sift soil and fill cold frame and hot beds to prepare for planting. Plant, spray, weed and water plants, shrubs and trees. Ties, bunches, wraps and packages of flowers, plants and shrubs to complete orders. Load trucks for marketing. Work the potting line by transplanting seedlings into retail containers and placing them in the growing area. Assist with delivery of product to customer. Maintenance on agricultural equipment required in operation. Assist in the configuration of the product for the sale of the crop. Planting and working in the fields. Grass can weigh anywhere from 10 pounds to 25 pounds per piece. Workers can apply the seeds to the fields by hand or use equipment that also includes handling 50- to 80- pound bags of seeds, fertilizer, mulch, straw, and large straw bales, going up and down ladders: mowing the fields, maintaining Irrigation In the fields, cutting, rolling, stacking, and preparing for the shipment of the turf. Loading and unloading trucks by hand or machine. Workers will be required to lay the sod when necessary. Prepare the fields for the next harvest by laying out the net material consisting of laying out the net and bending down to the ground every 3 feet. Put a stake In the ground that bends and tilts for long periods of time. Planting, weeding, fertilizing, harvesting, and loading corn, wheat, and soybeans. Perform a variety of other tasks, including lubricating and repairing agricultural machinery. Work in extreme heat or cold conditions for long hours a day. Other Related Jobs: General tasks and other agricultural tasks that go along with the worker's responsibilities. Alternative work: Includes: draining fields, preparing land for planting, maintenance of tools and equipment, and other work that Is directly related to harvesting and the activities for which workers are hired, fencing, latrines, and barn maintenance. Such work shall be offered when weather or harvesting conditions make it impossible to work in the primary activities listed above. General Conditions: If work is available beyond normal workdays, employer may offer, but not require, worker an opportunity to work additional hours. Workers will report to work at designated time and place as directed by assigned employer each day. workers may be requested to ten (10) hours per day depending on conditions in fields and the maturity of the crops. Also, workers may be requested to work on federal holidays and their Sabbath but will not be required. Workers may volunteer to work additional hours when work is available. Down time: Workers should expect occasional periods of little or no work because of weather, crop or other conditions beyond the employer’s control. These periods can occur any time throughout the season. Worker may be required to work in fields when crops are wet with dew / rain and should have suitable clothing for conditions which include light rain and temperatures ranging from 10 degrees to more than 100 degrees. Workers should be able to stand, bend, stoop and work for prolonged periods of time and be physically fit to perform duties as assigned. Care must always be exercised with any use of equipment.
