Multiple contract dates available. Alternative start date(s) include: 07/30/2026 (5 workers). The exact start date and/or number of workers may vary based on weather, crop conditions or other factors. Crops/Commodities: Crops grown: Sugarcane, Soybeans, Tobacco, Crawfish. Primary duties (performed the majority of workdays): Plant, cultivate and harvest sugarcane and soybeans. Operate farm vehicles, tractors and agricultural equipment. Work in groups to plant sugarcane while walking behind moving wagon. Use hand tools such as shovels, machetes and knives. Duties may include plowing, harrowing, tilling soil, weeding crops and applying fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides. Clean and load harvested products. Load field wagons with sugarcane stalks that have been segmented using machetes. Walk behind wagons and hand plant sugarcane at designated intervals in furrows. Repair fences and farm buildings. Repair and maintain farm vehicles, implements and agricultural equipment. Operate farm vehicles to load sugarcane onto trailers to assist with the completion of the harvest process. Dig, clear and maintain ditches to drain water from fields. Inform farm managers of crop progress. Using the employer's vehicles, licensed drivers may transport workers and may be offered additional hours. Plant, cultivate and harvest tobacco. Set plants in rows. Transplant or replant tobacco as needed. Take care to prevent bruising or breaking plants. Remove tops, flowers, and suckers. Pull mature leaves from stalks based on stalk position and leaf color. Cut tobacco plant and load in wagons and transport to tobacco barns for curing. Loading and unloading tobacco barns. String, handle and hang tobacco leaves for drying. Remove leaves from stalks, prepare tobacco leaves and bind in bundles to pack in barrels. Construct and maintain shade tents, barns, and barrels. Prepare and maintain land for growing tobacco. Use hand tools such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, and machetes. Perform general farm maintenance including weed and grass control. Assist with cleaning, maintenance, and repairing equipment, tools, fences, and farm buildings. Dig, clear and maintain ditches to drain water from fields. Harvest, weigh and bag crawfish using hand tools and agricultural equipment. Crawfish harvesting activities include cutting bait, bait and set out traps to catch crawfish, load and unload boats and traps, dump crawfish in bags, retrieve traps, weigh and bag crawfish. Apply gypsum to remove salt. Check oxygen levels and temperatures of water. Ailure to comply with safety requirements and operating instructions may result in disciplinary action up to and including immediate termination. Assist in Good Agricultural Practices policies.
