- Offer description:
Work consists of orchard and field labor for cherries, peaches, apples, and other fruit and vegetable crops, including truck-garden vegetables. Duties include pruning, thinning, harvesting, planting, transplanting, hoeing, thinning vegetables, staking, tying, trellising, mulching, cutting shoots and suckers, pulling or cutting weeds and vines, rock and debris removal, mowing, orchard and field cleanup, fence line and building area maintenance, and all other fruit and truck-garden tasks as needed. Some irrigation duties, including irrigation system operation, maintenance, and frost-control setup, may occur during evening or nighttime hours as required by crop and weather conditions. Workers must be able to pick fruit from ladders up to 12 ft. and carry picking buckets weighing up to 45 lbs. Packing work may include hand-sorting, boxing, grading, weighing, and loading. Workers may load/unload trucks, install and maintain irrigation, operate or assist with farm equipment if directed by the employer, and clean tools and equipment. Workers may assist with weed-spraying using general-use herbicides with backpack sprayers or tanks mounted on utility vehicles. All safety and label instructions must be followed; PPE will be provided at no cost. Work is performed outdoors in hot, cold, wet, humid, dusty, and windy conditions, requiring walking, standing, bending, reaching, repetitive movements, lifting, carrying, and climbing ladders for long periods of time. Workers must have 2 months of prior experience performing the work described in this job order on a commercial fruit or vegetable farm. Due to the seasonal nature of crop activities, the employer provides zero (0) days of training, and workers must arrive with the skills necessary to meet production standards. To retain employment, workers must pick a minimum of 10 bushels (basket/bag equivalents) of fruit per hour during harvest, as determined by the employer based on crop conditions. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the employer or designated supervisor. The employer may assign different tasks and crops based on weather and production needs and retains the right to determine work priorities and production standards. Tools, ladders, and equipment will be provided at no cost.
